The Letter for the King Season 1 Episode 1 and Episode 2 Recap
Netflix’s newest fantasy show, The Letter for the King, follows a young squire who must deliver a secret and important message to the King of Unauwen. In The Letter for the King Season 1 Episode 1, Tiuri, the adopted son of a knight, faced the trials but gained a new mission, and in The Letter for the King Season 1 Episode 2, his fellow squires and the Red Riders hunted Tiuri down as he rode to Unauwen.
The Prophecy and the Letters
The series opened with an explanation of the current political conflict. The kingdoms of Unauwen and Dagonaut had waged war against Eviellan for generations. Prince Viridian, the youngest son of King Favian of Unauwen, was successful in conquering Eviellan. The kingdom’s only hope was a prophecy of a hero that could stop him and save the people from the darkness.
Viridian charged six Red Riders to take booby-trapped letters and ride out. The Black Knight with the White Shield and Vokia left to follow a Red Rider and took the letter from him.
The prince met with an Eviellan Shaman who recognized that he had set the prophecy in motion. Her allegiance was to the warrior who would stop him. Viridian killed the shaman and took her power. He learned that one of the letters hadn’t been delivered. Jabroot, a scout, advised that seventeen Shamans were killed and their families murdered, but two graves were missing.
The Trials

Queen Alianor opened the knighthood trials with Crown Prince Iridian at her side. Tiuri, the adopted son of Sir Tiuri the Valiant, was an underdog in the knighthood trials because he lacked in size and ability. When Tiuri defeated a squire in the joust, he learned that his father paid the squire to lose. The next test required the squires to spend a night in silence and prayer where the Dagonaut knights were buried. However, as they sat alone, the squires heard frantic knocking and panicked pleas outside. The Squires debated over if this was part of their test, but Tiuri went to answer the door.
At the door, Vokia claimed that his master was dying, and Tiuri went with him alone. Vokia took him to the Black Knight, who gave him the letter for the King of Unauwen. He told Tiuri to take the knight’s horse, Ardanwen, to make the thousand-mile journey from Dagonaut to Unauwen. The Red Riders discovered them and chased Tiuri and Ardanwen off a cliff and into a river.
“Save Yourself”
The Red Riders chased Tiuri from the river, and he ended up at his home. He told his father what had happened, but Sir Fantumar came in. While Tiuri hid, Sir Fantumar killed his father and captured his mother. Sir Fantumar charged his son and the rest of the squires to bring Tiuri back to Dagonaut dead or alive in exchange for their knighthoods.
Mistrinaut
Lavinia, the daughter of the Mayor of Mistrinaut, asked her father for a horse and supplies to find a road through the mountains to bring trade to the town. The Mayor dismissed the idea, instead settling for the town’s main business of bounty hunting and for marrying her off. Lavinia saw and recognized Tiuri as a wanted man and brought him to her father. She tried to take Ardanwen, but he wouldn’t let her ride her. She freed Tiuri, and they agreed to work together.
