Sophie Turner Would “Kill” to Play Jean Grey Again

Sophie Turner Would “Kill” to Play Jean Grey Again

Despite the apparent insanity on the Dark Phoenix set that led to its complete and utter demise at the box office and amongst critics, Sophie Turner told Variety she would “kill” to return in a future installment. You can check out the interview in the video below.

“I don’t even know what the deal is, whether Disney wants to continue on the X-Men journey,” the actress said. “I would always be down to go back to that character and that cast and that experience… we had the best time on those movies. I would kill to go back.”

Obviously, the Game of Throne star’s wish likely won’t come to fruition as Disney and Marvel now own the X-Men franchise and will likely reboot the entire series with an all new cast.

Dark Phoenix grossed just $65.8 million in the United State and $186.6 million abroad for a $252.4 million worldwide total — the lowest in the X-Men franchise the kicked off with Brian Singer’s original 2000 film. Critics were savage, with just 23% giving the film a positive review on RottenTomatoes.

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Dark Phoenix brought back much of the cast of the new films including Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver).

Simon Kinberg wrote and directed the film, marking his directorial debut. He also produced alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker.
