The CW’s Arrow will end on season 8 with shorter episodes

The CW’s Arrow started the whole Arrowverse where fans can see their favorite DC superheroes together on the small screen. It’s a world filled with all kinds of heroes including Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Batwoman, Black Canary, Atom, Martian Manhunter, Kid Flash, Constantine, Superman, and more. Now we have sad news that Arrow will be ending its long run with the eighth season. The last season will air this fall and will contain 10 episodes.

Executive producers Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim and showrunner Beth Schwarz made a joint statement:

“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind. We’re heartened by the fact that Arrow has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and — more importantly — the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years.”

Stephen Amell shared the announcement via his Twitter.

“Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life… but you can’t be a vigilante forever,” Amell said. “Arrow will return for a final run of 10 episodes this Fall. There’s so much to say… for now I just want to say thank you.”

Amell also did a Facebook Live video after the announcement and got pretty emotional as he talks about his journey. He reminisces about the past on how he was a young and inexperienced actor who was “kind of dating someone.” Now he has a family, and they aren’t with him in Vancouver, so that’s definitely one reason for him to move on from Arrow.

“Something tells me even when I’m done, I won’t be gone,” he added. “If you’ve watched the Arrowverse, you should understand that… I think it’s been a good run. It’s no Supernatural, but it’s been a good run.”

All good things…

Synopsis: After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice. As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle, computer-science expert Felicity Smoak, former protégé Roy Harper, brilliant inventor Curtis Holt, street-savvy Rene Ramirez and meta-human Dinah Drake. Oliver will find himself vulnerable in a way unlike ever before when a mysterious new enemy begins to unravel his work as Green Arrow, forcing him to redeem his name or risk losing everything.

Arrow is currently airing its seventh season, with episode 15 airing on March 11th.
