New Apple TV service targeting April launch
Apple Inc. is going all in on its new TV streaming service with an expected launch date some time in April, according to Reuters. Content from CBS Corp, Viacom Inc and Lions Gate Entertainment Corp’s Starz will be included in the service along with Apple’s own original programming.

The new subscription service will launch globally via Apple’s App Store in an attempt to rival current streaming giants Netflix and Amazon Prime. The trade notes that Apple spent $2 billion on original content in Hollywood and lured “major stars such as Oprah Winfrey,” as a way to bring all of its shows together in a single location. Thus, eliminating the need for Apple device users to jump back and forth between different apps.

Apple will also provide TV channel subscriptions in manner not unlike Amazon Prime, which offers Starz and HBO to its users.
Of note is that this move is an attempt by Apple to replace diminishing iPhone sales with revenue from paid subscriptions.
