Black Panther scribe Joe Robert Cole to pen Call of Duty sequel

The Call of Duty film has yet to hit the big screen — or find a distributor, or a cast for that matter — but that hasn’t stopped Activision Blizzard Studio from pushing forward with its plans for a sequel. According to Variety, the studio has targeted Black Panther scribe Joe Robert Cole to write a second installment of the big screen adaptation of the popular video game.

Cole struck gold with his script for the mega hit Black Panther and has since landed high profile gigs such as the Netflix films Failsafe and All Day and a Night.

Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado director Stefano Sollima is set to direct the first Call of Duty film, with Kieran Fitzgerald (Snowden) onboard to pen the script, which will go into production sometime next year, with Activision Blizzard Studios’s Presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk producing with chief executive Boby Kotick. There are no details on the story for the film, but Sher and van Dyk have spoken about turning the franchise into a cinematic universe. The site reports that the specific era for the film is likely to be present day, though it’s not been confirmed.
