On a brisk night you can see the sewers of Southwest Detroit emulating the smog from the chambers of the zug island and in a distance you may see a 1984 regal driving with 24’s on it blaring some smooth soulful Detroit flavor. Ladies and gentlemen from Deerborn Heights , repping Southwest Detroit you are now being introduced to the one and only Valid.
I discovered Valid on my own accord when I heard him on Shade45 doing a freestyle session and he was dropping finishing moves of wrestlers as the punchline.I began to go down the youtube rabbit hole of Valid and every single video I came across was a banger and the thing that shocked me the most was that he wasn’t signed to a major and was doing all of this independently.
His latest project – The plum brandy EP is an extension of the genius of his classic Mihajlo album with both burning up in the underground scene and worldwide. He’s got co-signs from some of the biggest names in the history of Hip Hop including DJ Head, Elzhi of Slum Village, 5 Ela and Awesome Dre.
I had the opportunity to chop it up with Valid and with this we broke down the 11 songs on Mihajlo plus summarized the plum brandy EP and concept. We also discussed a little bit of wrestling and touched on growing up in Detroit and the different flavor that Valid delivers.
