The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Can Resume Production in Prague

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Now Allowed to Resume Productions in Prague

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier can resume production in Prague

Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was one of the first major productions to halt filming in Prague last March. Because of this, MCU fans have been wondering if this new production delay might affect that highly-anticipated series’ expected 2020 release.

Now, after more than a month since the temporary production suspension, fans might be receiving some good news as the Czech Film Commission has announced a new press release revealing that international productions will now officially be allowed to return to the Czech Republic from mid-May.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier production won’t be the only show that will benefit from the new announcement as Amazon Prime’s forthcoming fantasy shows: Carnival Row Season 2 and Rosamund Pike’s Wheel of Time series adaptation; and Netflix’s upcoming 473 Transatlantic film may now also resume their halted productions.

According to Czech Film Commissioner Pavlina Zipkova (via Deadline), all returning foreign actors and crew members “must show a negative test when leaving their country, a measure that, according to the latest reports, airlines will also begin to require for all their passengers.”

She further added, “Within 72 hours of arrival, they will undergo a second test, and remain quarantined until they receive a negative result. The result is usually received the next day. In this way they can avoid the 14-day quarantine, which would severely impact film budgets.”

In addition, the Czech Film Commission has also clarified that although the public will still need to abide some movements restrictions from May 1, “actors and performers are exempted from wearing a mask in the exercise of their profession. Instead, PCR testing will be required every 14 days. This condition will also be lifted on the basis of further development.”

John Wick creator Derek Kolstad joined the writing/creative team of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, though details are still under wraps, it seems likely to follow up on Falcon’s new status quo after Avengers: Endgame.

Anthony Mackie (Point Blank) and Sebastian Stan (I, Tonya) will be reprising their roles as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. Joining them are MCU veterans Daniel Bruhl and Emily VanCamp, who are set to return as Helmut Zemo and Sharon Carter, respectively. Neither character has appeared onscreen since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

During the Marvel Studios panel at D23 Expo 2019, it was revealed that Wyatt Russell (Lodge 49Black Mirror) has joined the series for the role of Marvel Comics character U.S. Agent. Miki Ishikawa (The Terror: Infamy), Desmond Chiam (Now Apocalypse), Carl Lumbly (Doctor Sleep, Supergirl) and Noah Mills (The Enemy Within) have also been cast for the series.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier may only run for six episodes, but it will connect with the larger MCU. The series is expected to debut in August 2020.
