The film, based on Beth O’Leary’s novel of the same name, will focus on a 29-year-old consultant and her 79-year-old grandmother who decide to swap lives for two months after suffering from personal setbacks. The granddaughter finds herself moving to a tiny Yorkshire village and taking on the responsibilities of dog walking and neighborhood watch while her grandmother lives in a tiny London flat and navigates dating apps and starting up a social club for lonely Londoners.

Beth has written a gorgeous, sweet and funny book in The Switch, and I couldn’t be more excited to start this journey with her,” Krieger said in a statement. “As we all know by now, Rachel is an amazing actress and a force to be reckoned with – I’m delighted she’s agreed to come on board as both an actor and executive producer.

The script adaptation is being penned by Bekka Bowling (Lovesick), with Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies) attached to produce while O’Leary will serve as executive producer with Brosnahan and Amblin’s Jeb Brody overseeing the project for the studio.

I am thrilled to be partnering with Amblin to bring Beth O’Leary’s beautiful book to life,” Brosnahan said in a statement. “I was utterly charmed and deeply moved from the first page to the last and can’t wait to share Leena and Eileen’s story with everyone.

After having key supporting roles in House of Cards and Manhattan, Brosnahan found breakout success in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, for which she’s been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards and winning one, as well as three Golden Globe nominations, winning twice. Though having appeared in prior films such as Patriots Day and Beautiful Creatures, the past few years have seen her expanding her work on the big screen including the animated espionage comedy Spies in Disguise and the upcoming historical The Courier, as well as signing on to co-star in the sci-fi thriller Distant with Anthony Ramos (In The Heights).
