This Is Us Season 4 Episode 6 Recap
In the previous episode of NBC’s This Is Us, Kevin met Ryan, who told him to stay away from Cassidy, and Beth and Randall learned that Tess suffered from anxiety. In This Is Us Season 4 Episode 6, Kate and Toby tried to get out of their marriage funk, and Randall played golf with the other councilmen.
Play the Game
Throughout the episode, we saw three separate games on a golf course in different decades. While Jack was dating Rebecca, he went golfing with Rebecca’s father, Tim. Tim tried to get Jack an interview with his golfing buddy, Merrick. Jack got drunk on the course and felt like an outsider. When Tim dropped off Jack, he told him that he would never be good enough for Rebecca.
In the 90s, Jack took young Randall golfing, who idolized Tiger Woods. When Randall tried to talk to Jack about the racial barriers that he was facing, Jack brushed it off. He talked about Mr. Lawrence, who he looked up to. Jack asked Mr. Lawrence to let him know if Randall was questioning his place in the world and invited him and his wife to dinner. On the golf course, Jack taught Randall that sometimes he would have to play up or down his game on the course, depending on the situation. It would be important for him to move up in the world.
In the present, Randall invited the councilmen to play golf. He wanted to trade votes with Councilman Wilkins to get his grocery store built in a food desert. Randall appeared to be doing terribly as Wilkins gave him tips to get better. Soon, they were getting along, and Wilkins was willing to discuss the grocery store. Randall had only been pretending to do poorly to get on the councilman’s good side.
Things in Common
Kevin ran into Cassidy at the gym. He was hung up on pictures of Zoe with another man. Donna, who worked at the gym, brought him a protein drink and gave him her number. Kevin went out with her, but they had little in common besides them both liking kids.
When they went to Kevin’s trailer, Cassidy was waiting outside. Kevin sent Donna home. Cassidy had fought with Ryan again. She and Kevin kissed and slept together.
Rekindling
Toby and Kate hadn’t had sex for over nine months. Kate called Rebecca and Miguel to watch baby Jack, and they got a hotel. Unfortunately, Toby was able to get going. He explained that it was a comment she made about the pants he was donating because he no longer fit in them. He wondered if it was because she didn’t think he could keep it off or if she wanted to put the weight back on. Additionally, Toby felt pressure to perform because he didn’t want Kate to feel like he wasn’t attracted to her anymore.
When they got home, Kate started cutting up the pants and apologized. Unfortunately, they were the wrong pair of pants.
