Gideon Falls: James Wan to executive produce adaptation of horror comic

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Wan and his Atomic Monster Production company has joined the production of Gideon Falls, the adaptation of the horror comic series which is currently being produced for television by Hivemind. The series will be developed into an hour-long drama series.

“To have a filmmaker of James Wan’s caliber, talent, and vision contributing to the atmospheric and terrifying world that Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino have created with Gideon Falls is nothing short of incredible,” Hivemind co-founders Kathy Lingg, Dinesh Shamdasani and Jason Brown said in a statement. “This is a high-powered and formidable combination for one of the most acclaimed comic series of the decade, and James and his colleagues at Atomic Monster — Michael Clear and Rob Hackett — are the perfect partners to help bring our adaptation to life. Fans of Gideon Falls, rest assured: We have some incredible surprises yet in store.”

Gideon Falls has been a success for Image Comics since its first issue release in March of last year. The series follows the lives of a reclusive young man obsessed with a conspiracy in the city’s trash, and a washed-up Catholic priest arriving in a small town full of dark secrets, become intertwined around the mysterious legend of The Black Barn, an otherworldly building that is alleged to have appeared in both the city and the small town, throughout history, bringing death and madness in its wake. Rural mystery and urban horror collide in this character-driven meditation on obsession, mental illness, and faith.

Gideon Falls was created by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. They will be serving as executive producers on the production. Hivemind’s Jason Brown, Sean Daniel, Kathy Lingg, and co-president, Dinesh Shamdasani will also be executive producing. Shamdasani commented on the series pick up:

“Gideon Falls is one of the most inventive stories in comics today, colliding a psychologically complex and intellectually nuanced cast against a stark and terrifying terrain of science fiction and horror. It’s no surprise that it comes from the brilliant minds of two of the most talented creators in the comics medium – Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino – or that it sparked a massive multi-studio bidding war.”
