Warner Bros. is taking another crack at Dark Shadows, the gothic soap-opera from Dan Curtis that aired from 1966 to 1971. According to Deadline, the studio is working with the CW to develop Dark Shadows: Reincarnation, a new TV series to be written by Mark B. Perry.

Per the report, the new series will be “a modern-day continuation of the strange, terrifying, and sexy saga of the Collins family of Collinsport, Maine — a mysterious, influential, publicity-shy group hiding a ghastly secret: For the past 400 years, they’ve lived under a curse that bedevils their blue blood with every imaginable supernatural creature and horror.”

Perry, a huge fan of the series, said in a statement that he was beyond thrilled and humbled to work on Dark Shadows. “It’s been a dream of mine to give Dark Shadows the Star Trek treatment since way back in the ‘80s when Next Generation was announced.”

He also reassured fans that his version will honor the show’s mythology while making it as accessible to modern-day audiences as possible.

He also teased:“The Collins family history is not particularly famous for its accuracy.”

There have been several attempts to cash in on Dark Shadows previously, including television adaptations in 1991 and 2004, both of which were short lived. In 2012, Tim Burton gave the show a big screen makeover with middling results despite a cast that included Johnny Depp and Eva Green.
