Euphoria Season 1 Episode 2 Recap
In the previous episode of HBO’s Euphoria, Rue, fresh out of rehab, met Jules at a party, and they became instant friends. In Euphoria Season 1 Episode 2, Rue faced the first day of school, and Nate obsessed over Maddy’s pool hookup, Tyler.
Summer Memory
On Rue’s first day of school, her teacher put her on the spot and asked her to recount a memory from the summer in front of the whole class. Since her summer involved her younger sister finding her unconscious and her mother sending her to rehab, Rue panicked and fled to bathroom. Lexi went after her, and Rue told her she shouldn’t check on her under any circumstances.
Rue wanted to go to Jules’s, but she was having dinner with her father. Instead, Rue went to Fezco’s since she had flushed her remaining drugs in a panic. It wasn’t a good time for her to be there, but Rue insisted on staying. Fezco’s supplier, Mouse, was dangerous. He intimidated Rue into trying Fentanyl and overcharged Fezco for the patches he gave her. When Mouse left, Fez had Ashtray flush the Fentanyl and called Jules to help him with Rue.
Obsession
We learned about Nate’s childhood. He found out about his father’s sexual proclivities at a young age, but they were still close. Nate was obsessed with and possessive over Maddy. He stalked Tyler and broke into his apartment. Nate beat Tyler and tortured him. Maddy had claimed she had blacked out when she hooked up with Tyler. Nate told Tyler he wouldn’t tell anyone because he’d be in much more trouble for raping a minor. Tyler insisted he hadn’t.
Jules had been texting with a new guy she found on a dating app. At the end of the episode, we learned that it was Nate, even though he had just been out with Maddy.
Rumors
Video of Kat having sex with Wes at McKay’s party surfaced. She told Troy he had to take it down because it was child pornography. She had some other conditions, like a makeup shopping spree and Troy publicly denying it was her in the video. Despite deleting the video, it ended up on a porn website. Kat read the comments about her, and she decided to sign up for the site’s cam program.
Dues
McKay met Cassie’s mess of a mother. He had driven down from college to hang out with Cassie. McKay complained to Cassie about not starting on the college’s football team. He felt he’d paid his dues already, even though he was just a freshman. Cassie tried to distract him with sex, but McKay wanted to have “real” conversation with her. He’d upset her by rejecting her advances. After he apologized, he asked Cassie for nudes, which she took for him.
