Thai heist movie Bad Genius getting an English remake
Deadline reports that Erik Feig’s Picturestart and Patrick Wachsberger’s Picture Perfect Entertainment have successfully acquired the rights to develop an English-language remake of director-writer Nattawut Poonpiriya’s 2017 Thai heist thriller film Bad Genius (Chalard Games Goeng) which became an international hit throughout Asia, making it the highest-grossing Thai film of 2017.

The remake will be a high-stakes and high-octane thriller which will follow a group of entrepreneurial high school seniors who team up to take down the rigged college admissions system. Eva Anderson will pen the script.
Deadline reports that the rights to the film were already obtained long before the current high-profile college admissions scandal broke out.

The original Bad Genius film was based on a real-life SAT cheating scandal that happened in China. The film followed the story of a brilliant secondary school student named Lynn, who orchestrated a high-stakes cheating scheme when her rich classmates Pat and Grace ask her to help them cheat in the STIC, an international standardized test for university admissions. With the help of fellow top student Bank, they’ve carefully planned and prepared for the very difficult operation that will earned them millions of baht from wealthy students clients.
