POLL RESULTS: Should a Famous Actor Be the Next James Bond?

As filming continues on Daniel Craig’s final bow in Bond 25, Chris Hemsworth made comments about being interested in the role, which raised an interesting question: Should the next James Bond be played by a famous name actor? ComingSoon.net asked its readers this very question, along with a list of possible big names to choose from, and nearly 4000 of you responded! Check out the official results of the poll below!

This week’s header image is by artist/screenwriter Ian Fried (Spectral), and you check out a poster view in the gallery below and purchase a t-shirt with Hemsworth as 007 by clicking here!

Should a famous actor be the  next James Bond?

Yes, it should be someone I’ve heard of! (55%, 1525 votes)

No, hire a newcomer who can disappear into the role! (45%, 1267 votes)

This was a pretty divisive poll, with a known actor preference edging out an unknown actor. Seems our readers slightly prefer someone they know in the role of 007. All this despite the fact that at the time he was cast Daniel Craig was not much of a known quantity in the States, with his most famous roles being supporting parts in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road to Perdition and Munich, as well as a lead role in Matthew Vaughn’s low budget crime drama Layer Cake.

Which famous actor would you most like to see as James Bond?

Henry Cavill 19% (740 votes)

Idris Elba (18%, 708 votes)

Chris Hemsworth (17%, 662 votes)

Tom Hardy (12%, 479 votes)

Michael Fassbender (11%, 431 votes)

Tom Hiddleston (10%, 403 votes)

Charlie Hunnam (4%, 170 votes)

Jamie Dornan (3%, 122 votes)

Kit Harrington (3%, 106 votes)

James McAvoy (2%, 78 votes)

Chiwetel Ejiofor (1%, 35 votes)

Superman actor Henry Cavill was just ahead of perennial favorite Idris Elba, with Hemsworth coming in third just a little behind Elba. Bottoming out were Split and X-Men star James McAvoy and Doctor Strange thesp Chiwetel Ejiofor. Of course a mere poll is not going to influence Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of Eon Productions when they make the ultimate choice to hire the next James Bond.

Returning cast members for the next James Bond adventure include Daniel Craig as Agent 007, Ralph Fiennes (Skyfall), Lea Seydoux (Spectre), Naomie Harris (Moonlight) and Ben Whishaw (Paddington 2). Bohemian Rhapsody Oscar Winner Rami Malek will play the film’s villain.

Bond 25 has seen its share of problems over the past year. It was initially to be directed by Danny Boyle, who exited the project abruptly this summer over creative differences. This delayed production while the studio was forced to search for new directors, before eventually landing on Cary Joji Fukunaga, best known for directing the first season of HBO’s True Detective.

EON Productions and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios recently reached an agreement with Universal Pictures to partner on the worldwide release of the 25th James Bond film. The superspy’s previous outing, Spectre, opened in U.S. theaters on November 16, 2015. The film earned $200 million domestically and $680.6 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $880.7 million.

The as-yet-untitled Bond 25 is due to hit cinemas on April 8, 2020.
