CinemaCon 2019: Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham battle Idris Elba in Hobbs & Shaw clip (footage description)

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw poster

To close out their CinemaCon presentation, Universal Pictures brought out director David Leitch, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham to introduce some new Hobbs & Shaw footage to the crowd. Dwayne Johnson tells the crowd that Hobbs & Shaw delivers on all of the typical Fast & Furious action, but it introduces audiences to two very different cultures. The film showcases the cultures of both Johnson and Statham’s. Johnson was also very proud to bring to the screen the war dance of his people. It’s not necessarily the haka but it’s similar. “Once you see the dance [in the footage], the tone just changes,” Johnson said. Now, it’s time to showcase the good stuff.

Hobbs & Shaw footage starts with cars going to a nuclear silo site. Suddenly, the trailer cuts to Hobbs and Shaw inside the nuclear silo. Hobbs asks Shaw to pick a door. At this moment, he looks at his door and asks Hobbs, “what’s a matter you got a lot of bad guys behind that door?”

Nope.

As Shaw’s door opens, it turns out that a lot of thugs behind his door. Of course, Shaw starts to beat up everyone in the room. When Hobbs’ door opens, all he sees is a brute that’s bigger than he is. Unfortunately for the brute, Hobbs knocks him out with one punch. He looks through the window and sees Shaw STILL beating up everyone. When Shaw sees Hobbs on the other side, Hobbs simply just yawns.

Once the bad guys are all taken care of, Hobbs takes the brute and knocks his head against the retinal scan. Access granted. Unfortunately for Shaw, the guy he takes gets him an access denied message. So he smashes the poor thug’s face on the facial screen once again. Yet he still gets an access denied message. He keeps on doing it again until it cuts to a scene with Brixton (Idris Elba). As it turns out, Deckard Shaw’s sister (Vanessa Kirby) steals something from Brixton and he really wants it back.

Looking for advice, Deckard Shaw visits his mother (Helen Mirren) in prison. “Look after your sister,” she tells Deckard. Next, both Hobbs and Shaw are in a fighter jet. Hobbs ejects Shaw from the jet and tells his sister that he always wanted to do that. Brixton calls himself the black Superman because of his genetical enhancements. As a result, he completely wipes the floor with both characters. That isn’t done very easily as we’ve seen from the other Fast & Furious films. Therefore, Hobbs goes home to his family’s home. He apologizes to his mother for bringing trouble to them.

However, Hobbs says they have a lot of guns… Guns which his mother got rid of. All that’s left are wooden ancient weaponry. Hobbs’ family faces off against Brixton’s army by performing a war dance. At this point, Hobb’s gang charges towards Brixton’s army You’ll see a montage of fights, explosions, and mayhem. Basically what you expect from a Fast & Furious film.

The footage ends with Hobbs and his family running away from a military chopper. They use the tows from their tow trucks to try and bring down the chopper. One after the other, the tow trucks attach themselves to each other while Hobbs grabs the chains and tries to muscle the chopper down with his massive muscles. You know your typical Fast & Furious action scene.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw hits theaters on August 2nd.
