Quartermass started as a successful 1950s BBC TV series before making the leap to the big screen in a trio of films — The Quatermass Xperiment (1955), Quatermass 2 (1957) and Quatermass and the Pit (1967). The British hero is often seen as an influence on the popular Dr. Who, as well as the Indiana Jones series and John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness.

Nigel Kneale created the character, who is described as an intelligent and highly moral British scientist who battles alien forces attempting to destroy Earth. Several actors portrayed the character over the years including Reginald Tate, Brian Donlevy, John Robinson, Andre Morell, Andrew Keir, John Mills and Jason Flemyng.
