ABC is considering a New York Undercover reboot

The 90s cop drama New York Undercover may be put back on the beat. Per Deadline, ABC Network is considering rebooting New York Undercover, which was produced by Dick Wolf, the patron saint of police and legal procedurals.

The reboot would come from Ben Watkins (Burn Notice, Hand of God), with Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment expecting to be a co-produce with Universal TV, where the company is based, and ABC Studios. Wolf and Watkins would both executive produce alongside Wolf Entertainment’s Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski.

The original New York Undercover ran on Fox for four seasons between 1994 and 1998. Stars Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo made history as the first people of color to play lead roles in a police drama.

Rick Rosen, Wolf’s agent, spoke about the pending reboot at a Paley Center appearance Tuesday night. “[Wolf] is reviving one of his shows from years ago,” explaining that its the kind of series that “doesn’t necessarily have to have the same cast.” Rosen also indicated that multiple networks were bidding on the project, including Fox, where it originally aired.

This comes as ABC is also rebooting NYPD Blue, which ran for 12 seasons starting in 1993.
