The Purge Season 1 Episode 9 Recap
In the previous episode of The Purge, Jenna killed Lila and Joe abducted Penelope, Rick, and Jenna. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap The Purge season 1 episode 9 ‘I Will Participate!’
Miguel and Pete
Pete welcomed all of the children from the cult into the bar. Miguel wanted to immediately pursue Joe, but Pete convinced him to put together a plan to get Penelope back. Pete used some security camera footage to track down Joe. Miguel and Pete armed themselves and ventured out into the lawless night in order to rescue Penelope. The pair quickly encountered a roadblock and Pete brought their vehicle to a stop. Pete got out of the car and was allowed through the roadblock as he was off-limits to the Purgers.
Miguel and Pete continued on their journey and Pete explained why he was off-limits. The pair arrived at the address registered to Joe, but he was nowhere to be found. They found a bomb guarding the front door and Miguel attempted to disarm it. He did so and the pair went into the house. The duo found Joe’s cork-board covered in photos and a plan to find all of the people he had sought out. They learned where Joe was from Joe’s father. The pair’s car was blown up by Rex, but they managed to escape unharmed.
Jane, Joe, Penelope, Rick and Jenna
Penelope and Jane, along with the other prisoners tried to comfort each other. Joe revealed his identity to all of his prisoners and most of them immediately recognized him. Jane attempted to figure a way out of her prison. Joe unveiled his plan, that he would put everyone that had wronged him on trial. They would be given an opportunity to confess their crimes against him, and if he found their confession compelling they would be let go. Joe first called forth a person who bullied him in high school. The man confessed his crimes and Joe decided to kill him. Penelope sought reassurance from Jane, but none was to be had.
Everyone decided to tackle Joe when he opened the cage and then take his weapon from him. Next, Joe called forth Ilene, a woman from his previous place of employment. She attempted to run away, but was shot dead before she could escape. Joe announced that Jane would stand trial next. Jane’s trial began while Rick explained to Jenna why the two of them where there. Jane had gone out on a date with Joe and had upset him with some of her comments about his appearance. Joe had also made many racist assumptions about Jane, which caused her to leave the date early. Jane explained why Joe was in the wrong to accuse her of wrongdoing. Joe decided to kill Jane as she was upsetting him further. Penelope attempted to distract Joe and he explained that she was brought in because she did not thank him for opening a door for her. Joe then killed Jane.
