Hereditary director Ari Aster’s next horror film coming summer 2019

A24 announced that Hereditary director Ari Aster’s next horror film, a story about a vacation gone violently wrong, will hit theaters on August 9 of next year. Hereditary took audiences by storm when it hit theaters in June of this year, so A24 is hoping that summer audiences will react as well to his as-yet-untitled follow-up.

While it doesn’t have a title, the film will star Jack Reynor (Kin), Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth) as “a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult,” as reported earlier this summer.

Aster also told The Hollywood Reporter some details about it back in June. “I’m in pre-production for my next film which will be shooting in Hungary,” said Aster. “A24 is doing that as well, and that is technically a horror film. It’s Scandinavian folk horror. That is the only other horror movie I have. And I’m pretty sure that’s going to be it for a long time.

In addition to Reynor and Pugh, the film will star Will Poulter (The Maze Runner), Vilhem Blomgren (Midsommer), William Jackson Harper (The Good Place), Ellora Torchia (Broadchurch) and Archie Madekwe (Legacy).
