Daredevil Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

Daredevil season 3 episode 8 follows Matt and Ray as they attempt to identify the FBI agent who attacked the Bulletin as Daredevil, as revealed in the previous episode. Ray suspects that the fake Daredevil may be Dex, but the two need evidence in order to prove it.

“I’m Drowning in Deep Water”

Daredevil Season 3 Episode 8

Dex remains distraught following his attack on the Bulletin. He reaches out to Julie for help, and she agrees to listen to Dex and try to help him. In order to make sure that Dex has no one else to support him, Fisk has Julie killed, throwing Dex further off balance.

Ray and Matt suspect that Dex is the fake Daredevil. Ray has Dex brought to the FBI under the pretense of suing the agency for wrongful suspension. With Dex away, Ray and Matt check Dex’s apartment. Matt says the suit has been there, but it has been moved, leaving no evidence in the apartment connecting Dex to Fisk. Dex returns home to find Ray and Matt across the alley. After a shoot out that injures Ray, Matt and Ray are able to escape.

Felix picks up Dex and takes him to Fisk. Fisk tells Dex to let his rage out. Fisk embraces Dex, solidifying the idea that Fisk is the only one who understands and will stand by Dex.

Foggy has determined that Fisk is ratting out certain criminals and corrupt officials in order to eliminate the competition. Fisk will then fill that void by offering protection to the criminals and buying off the officials, a one-stop-shop for all things crime related in the city. Foggy can’t prove any of this, but he plans to throw it at DA Tower at a campaign event and have Karen cover Foggy’s allegations for the Bulletin. That will make it public and force the FBI to have to react.

“Is There Any Part of You That Isn’t Broken?”

Karen, however, has plans of her own. Like Foggy, she sees the value in trying to make their adversary react emotionally instead of rationally. Rather than cover Foggy’s remarks, Karen goes to Fisk’s penthouse, where she baits him, first with words about Fisk’s mother, then about Fisk murdering his own father with a hammer. When Fisk attempts to turn the conversation onto Karen and Matt, Karen strikes back by confessing to Fisk that she killed Wesley. That enrages Fisk, but the FBI and Foggy break up the interview before Fisk can lay a finger on Karen.

“Our Son Is Too Much Like You, Jack”

Daredevil Season 3 Episode 8

Matt swiped one of Dex’s therapy session tapes, the last remaining tape after Dex torched the rest. Matt tells Sister Maggie how similar Dex’s and Matt’s own childhoods sounded, only that Dex was a psychopath from the beginning. Matt is upset that he didn’t attempt to stop Dex when he had his chance. Maggie tells Matt that he did what was right by honoring his promise to Ray, but Matt wonders how many more lives will be ruined or lost because of that decision.

While Matt trains, Maggie goes upstairs to the chapel and prays for Matt. Matt hears Maggie asking Jack to watch over their son. Matt, realizing that Maggie is his mother, reels in shock.
