FX developing Hockey drama series Trashers based on true story
Deadline reports that the FX network is developing a drama series called Trashers, based on Rich Cohen’s article “The Mobster Who Bought his Son a Hockey Team” that ran in The Atlantic this past May. The article details the life of a small-town trash hauler with mob ties who owns a defunct minor league hockey team. The article is described as “a tale of goons, no-show jobs, and a legendary minor-league franchise that helped land its owner in prison.”
At the center of the story is Jimmy Galante, a Genovese crime family associate and owner of the now-defunct Danbury Trashers minor league hockey team. Galante was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for tax evasion back in 1999.
The series will be written and executive produced by Dan Nowak, who is currently an executive producer on the Amazon series The Expanse. He started off his career on AMC’s The Killing where he worked as a writer, co-executive producer and supervising producer. In addition, he has worked as a co-executive producer on Epix’s Get Shorty and Netflix’s Seven Seconds.
FX was unavailable for comment, per the report.
