Charlie Bean will direct Disney’s live-action Lady and the Tramp remake
As revealed in an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, director Charlie Bean will be directing the live-action Lady and the Tramp remake. The film will mix live-action and CGI together, giving Bean the opportunity to tackle live-action while keeping him rooted in his animation roots.
Charlie Bean is most known for his work in animation, having worked on projects like Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory. Bean directed 18 out of 19 episodes of Disney XD’s Tron Uprising. He made his feature film debut last year with The LEGO Ninjango Movie.
This project is set to be made and released for Disney’s digital streaming service. The streaming service is set to launch in 2019 and will have four to six movies released per year. There will also be content from Disney brands such as Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. The decision to release such a large-scale remake on the service gives further insight into the investment Disney is making into the launch of its exclusive digital streaming service.
Disney’s Lady and the Tramp was first released in 1955 and introduced audiences everywhere to a spellbinding love story. The film focuses on Lady, a pampered cocker spaniel belonging to a well-to-do family, and Tramp, a streetwise mutt. After her owners have a baby, Lady finds herself out on the streets left to fend for herself. When Lady finds herself in danger, Tramp saves the day and tries to teach her that there’s more to life than the inside of a house. Adventure happens and love blossoms as a result.
Brigham Taylor is producing the project. Andrew Bujalksi wrote the script for the remake. Jessica Virtue and Chaz Salembier are supervising for Disney.
