Star Wars: Episode IX now on 4th script rewrite

With all the recent news surrounding Star Wars: Episode IX, it seems as if the Dark Side itself is trying to hurt the film. What issues might you wonder? Well, production has been delayed and the film will now release in December of 2019. Some of this is due to the original director Colin Trevorrow, parting ways with the project for “creative differences”, the untimely death of Carrie Fisher, and now another script rewrite of the film.

But much like the Rebel Alliance, a new hope has been found. Well, not exactly new, but more like a returning hero to the franchise. JJ Abrams is now co-writing the script with Chris Terrio and directing the final installment. Terrio is known for writing Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Argo, while JJ Abrams is known for quite a bit more including Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Many seem to worry about the inclusion of the DCEU writer, while others are either hopeful or worried for the returning director, as not everyone was happy with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Disney seems to be playing it safe by bringing him back to the franchise after all the media coverage surrounding the film’s drama. This follows the other issues that seemed to happen with the Han Solo origin film, which also had a bit of issue keeping directors until Disney ultimately decided to bring in veteran director Ron Howard. The upcoming Solo debut of our favorite scruffy looking nerf herder is still untitled but will be an American space Western film centered on Han Solo. The film is currently in production and is being produced by Lucasfilm with a screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film will be the second Star Wars Anthology film, following the 2016 film Rogue One, and will star Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian, and Woody Harrelson.

Hopefully, this 4th revision of the script is the best rendition so far for Star Wars: Episode IX, and it’s the script they decide to go with to prevent further delay on production. Even though we know JJ Abrams is the right guy for the job, we should still hold onto hope for the final chapter of the Star Wars Saga. Mark Hamill, John Boyega, and Daisey Ridley should return for the film assuming they survive Star Wars: The Last Jedi. With the expanding Star Wars universe, we can only hope that a stand alone Obi-Wan Kenobi film is in the works, which could close out the anthology films that are separate from the nine main films.

During D23, a synopsis was given for the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi which premieres in US theaters on December 15, 2017: “In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.”
