There’s probably not a single human being in the world who’d refer to the well-respected actor Sir Patrick Stewart as a pile of shit, but that’s exactly what he’ll be playing in a new animated film. That’s right, the classically trained Shakespearean actor and Captain Picard himself will be playing the poo emoji in the upcoming The Emoji Movie according to The Guardian.
The announcement about Stewart’s involvement was accompanied by news that Jennifer Coolidge and Maya Rudolph will also voice characters in the film based on the popular phone icons. They’ll join TJ Miller, Ilana Glazer and James Corden, all of whom were announced on previous dates.
The film, directed by Tony Leondis, will follow an emoji born with multiple expressions who goes on an adventure in a teenager’s phone to become a normal emoji.
You can hear Stewart voicing a smiling pile of excrement when The Emoji Movie premiers on August 4, 2017. He’ll also be in the upcoming Logan this March. It can only be assumed that the latter role will be slightly more serious.
