Watched at Home: Top 20 Streaming Films for the Week of June 5
Well, hello there my fellow couch potatoes! It’s time for another Top 20 Watched at Home list. Don’t get too excited, though. Not much has changed. No, really. After what felt like a month’s worth of intense battles that saw a number of films take over the No. 1 spot, the world has decided that Sonic the Hedgehog shall remain the undisputed champ for the remainder of my life.
That’s not a criticism of the film. In fact, I haven’t even seen the damned thing so how would I know if it sucks? The truth of the matter is families have embraced the video game adaptation, which should ostensibly lead to studios greenlighting more video game adaptations… right?
The remaining films on the list follows last week’s quite closely with a few shake ups here and there. RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars: S5 made its debut at No. 15 while Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker returned after a couple of weeks hidden in the shadows.
Most surprising of all is the reemergence of the Harry Potter complete film collection. Apparently, everyone decided this last week was the week to watch Harry Potter again. And that includes me. I’m serious. I watched the Harry Potter series this last week. Well, not the first two, but from Azkaban and on. I enjoy the films even if I don’t really love any of them as much as I do the books — besides Part III, at least. Tellingly, I’d love to see Netflix adapt JK Rowling’s novels into a long form series in order to capture the side stories the films essentially glossed over. I get that you can’t put everything from a 6,000-page book into a two hour movie, but what the Hell happened to Quidditch —
