Game of Thrones’ penultimate episode, “The Bells,” has divided the fanbase. The story and actions of the main characters have led to fans feeling very disappointed and surprised. This isn’t the only episode that has created a backlash for some of the fans since there are those who felt that season 8’s writing has suffered since showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss don’t have the source material to help them out. (Author George R. R. Martin is still working on “The Winds of Winter,” the second-to-last book in A Song of Ice and Fire series.) Now a petition has been created that wants HBO to remake the 8th season by bringing in better writers.
The petition was created by Dylan D, with the goal of reaching 200,000 signatures. It has already reached over 170,000 signatures, so reaching 200,000 shouldn’t be that hard.
Here’s a statement from the petitioner:
“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.
This series deserves a final season that makes sense.
Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”
There are Star Wars fans who are fearful of Benioff and Weiss attached to the franchise.
“I don’t want these two anywhere near Star Wars, either,” a signatory wrote. “This was abysmal.”
“I unfortunately I had to watch this **** to know it needs redoing,” another added.
This fan wrote, “I understand it’s GOT but don’t trash 8 yrs of character building for what they think will shock and awe us. It sucks.”
If there’s a complaint about something, you can bet there’s a petition being created for it. Usually, these petitions never go anywhere. But sometimes when there’s enough public outcry, a change may happen. For example, the director of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is going to redesign Sonic’s look due to the backlash he received from the trailer.
Game of Thrones will air its final episode this Sunday night on May 19, 2019.
