CinemaCon 2019: The Avengers plan to battle Thanos in Avengers: Endgame clip (footage description and breakdown)

Avengers: Endgame clip

After the gallantry of welcoming Fox into the Walt Disney family during their CinemaCon presentation, it was time for the studio to show off its massive slate of films this year. What better way to kick things off than by showing off something new for Avengers: Endgame. This footage has never been seen before.

The Avengers: Endgame clip begins with Captain Marvel saying she’s going to kill Thanos. However, Black Widow wants her to work with them as a team. Unfortunately, she tells her that “morale is fragile” after the death of half their friends. However, there is a person at Avengers base that can tell them where Thanos is exactly. That person is Nebula. She tells the Avengers that Thanos tore her apart and put her back together to prepare for this mission. But she asks Thanos what they’re going to do when the mission is complete. At this instant, she tells them that Thanos is in the garden. “Great. Thanos has a retirement plan,” says Rhodey.

Rocket briefs the team that the there’s was a particular energy wave that occurred when the Gauntlet was used on Earth. Two days later, the same energy wave was seen again on another planet. In other words, Thanos is able to use the Infinity Gauntlet despite its status at the end of Infinity War. Widow warns that they’ll be in short-handed. But Captain Marvel has the idea to use the stones to bring everyone back and Captain America agrees with her.

But War Machine is wondering what’s going to change since Thanos still has the gauntlet. “Before you didn’t have me,” Captain Marvel tells him. In response to that, War Machine asks her where she was when Thanos was attacking Earth. Unfortunately, there are a lot of planets in this universe and only one of her. So there’s only so much of her to go around when it comes to protecting planets from the threats of the universe. Fortunately for Earth, it has an entire team of superheroes to protect it. Thor gets up and goes to where Captain Marvel is. He calls for Stormbreaker and it whizzes past her. As Thor stares at her, Captain Marvel lets out a smirk. At this moment, Thor tells the team that he likes this one. “Let’s go get this son of a bitch,” Captain America tells the team.

It’s at this point that the Avengers takes the Milano into space. Rocket asks the team who hasn’t been to space. Hilariously, Captain America, War Machine, and Black Widow all raise their hands. At this instant, Rocket tells them to not puke on his ship. All of a sudden, the Milano’s thrusters change as Rocket, Captain Marvel, War Machine, Thor, Captain America, and Black Widow jettison into deep space. As they’re warping through space, the camera focuses in on Captain America’s eyes and it lights up as he realizes he’s “not in Kansas anymore”.

There’s several things to take note from the Avengers: Endgame clip. First of all, Iron Man isn’t in the clip at all. In a previous trailer, we’ve seen Nebula on the same ship as Tony Stark. Yet Nebula is on Earth with no Tony Stark in sight. In addition, like Tony Stark, you won’t find Ant-Man in this clip as well. We’ve seen Ant-Man stand alongside the other Avengers at their base. However, he’s not in this clip either. Not to mention, both Bruce Banner and Nebula aren’t on the Milano either (see above picture). Are they going back into space or coming up with a plan in order to save Tony Stark?

However, there is a logical explanation as to why Hawkeye is missing from this clip. In the Avengers: Endgame clip, Black Widow still has all of her white hair. If you notice from the theatrical trailer, Widow is starting to regrow her red hair while the white is on the tips now. That means that several weeks will pass before she reunites with Clint.

However, the Russo brothers confirmed that there are red herrings in the Avengers: Endgame trailers to throw off die-hard fans. So we don’t know exactly what the timing is for all of this. Do the Avengers get their snazzy white suits after this set of Avengers goes to see Thanos? If that’s the case, then why are the Avengers fighting Thanos again after getting their asses kicked a second time? There’s a lot of questions surrounding the timeline of events from everything that we’ve seen. Yet the Avengers: Endgame clip was still awesome nonetheless.

Avengers: Endgame destroys theaters on April 26th.
