When the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim first released, I played it on Xbox 360. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours in to the game, but a remastered console version, with mod support no less, is definitely interesting to me.

The special edition of the game features massive graphical overhauls, volumetric god rays, new water tech, and many other tweaks. One of the biggest draws of the special edition, as someone who has already played the game extensively, is the possibility of mods on consoles – much like with Fallout 4.

While mods are freely available from the game’s main menu, there is a limit to the space available for mods on the PS4 and Xbox One.

So, while mods can be freely downloaded and deleted as many time as you like, which ones are worth keeping hold of? Which ones are good to start with? Which ones, if any, allow you to have a follower more suited to Skyrim’s cold climate than you? I got you covered.

Here’s a grouping of 5 mods that are well worth checking out. Before we get started however, it’s worth noting that there are differences to how mods work, depending on your console of choice. There are more mods available for Xbox One than there are on PS4, due to Sony not allowing mods that import or create new assets within the game. This includes meshes, textures and objects. So no train summons. There is also a limit to storage space available for mods, 5GB of space is available on Xbox One and 1GB is available on PS4. With that in mind, this list will be for the Xbox One, as it’s the platform I’m currently playing on.

So now, the mods.

Alternative Start – Live Another Life (Xbox One)

magneticmara

“Live Another Life provides an alternative means to start the game for those who do not wish to go through the lengthy intro sequence at Helgen. You will be given the opportunity to choose your race and then choose a new life for your character to lead. A wide variety of choices will be available. What you choose will have a lasting impact, so choose carefully or the gods may forsake you again!”

This mod is great for people who’ve previously played the original version of the game, and allows you to play almost any kind of character you care to think of, without having to repeat the game’s opening and main quest line – but don’t worry. Travelling to Helgen starts the quest line.

The mod creator also urges you to have subtitles enabled this mod, as there are some lines of text that have no voiced dialogue within the mod.

You can download this mod here.

Cutting Room Floor – Xbox One

ffvw7y5fwv3k9idrctpu

“From the depths of the ether, or just the cutting room floor, comes forth several NPCs, some quests, and other miscellaneous content which was created but never implemented in the game. If ever you had the feeling that Skyrim was missing something, you were probably right! This mod should relieve a bit of that. Villages that were supposed to exist have been brought back. Quests that were partially implemented have been completed. Various items have been restored that were still in the data files. NPCs have been brought back to the game and given homes where appropriate. Plus plenty of other random bits of stuff that was mentioned in the game but didn’t exist yet.”

This mod is great for accessing cut content, unfinished quests (that have been completed), and for just getting more Skyrim in your Skyrim.

You can download this mod here.

Open Cities Skyrim – Xbox One

maxresdefault-2

“Open Cities Skyrim is a comprehensive project that aims to bring back at least part of the feel of Morrowind – specifically how most of the cities were a natural part of the world and you could just walk in without loading screens. The added immersion and realism goes a long way, probably a lot more than you might think. Ever wanted to ride your horse into the center of Riften? Well now you can. Need to get some help from the city guards to vanquish a foe? Run toward the gates and the guards will do their duty while you can seek safety within the walls. The town guards make for some very interesting interactions this way. This will also make running dragon battles that much more interesting since the flow of the battle won’t be interrupted by the loading screen and all of the city guards can be involved at the same time.”

This mod removes loading screens when entering or exiting a city, allowing you to take mounts inside with you as well. The mod does require you to wait 24 hours in game so that the cities can be correctly mapped, but it’s a great mod that adds to immersion, and reduces your time spinning character models while staring at a loading screen.

You can download this mod here.

Campfire Complete Camping System – Xbox One

64798-1-1429214718

“Create and buy camping equipment using items in the world around you. Build 4 different kinds of tents, create tanning racks, a portable enchanting kit, and more. Use found deadwood to build hatchets, arrows, and other useful creations. You can create over a dozen useful items on-the-spot no matter where you are in Skyrim.”

This mod lets you make fire and build tents, but it also adds two new skills for your character – Resourcefulness and Instincts.

Using Resourcefulness allows you to gather fire components from the world around you, and creating large campfires even grants a small XP bonus. Instincts works as a modified detect life spell, that allows you to see the sounds made by moving creatures, and allows you to smell the dead (including undead) from a distance.

You can download this mod here.

Frostfall: Hypothermia Camping Survival – Xbox One

11163-1-1357613382

“The three main components of Frostfall are hypothermia, cold water survival, and camping. Frostfall adds a deep, immersive level of gameplay to Skyrim, while keeping tedium to a minimum. An immersion mod should never get in the way of having fun. Frostfall tracks your location, weather, time of day, worn clothing, and more, to determine your current condition in a seamless way that feels easy to jump into and start playing. It is highly customizable, whether you’re looking for a lightweight immersion enhancement or a deeper challenge. Frostfall features contextual tutorials, 11 new spells, the Endurance skill, icy visual effects, shivering sound effects for the player character, controller force feedback, ability to disable Fast Travel, and much more.”

Using this mod requires the above mentioned Campfire mod. This changes the way Skyrim is played and is an interesting new way to play the game. It can interfere with some quests, so is maybe best kept for an alternative file or just some immersive survival play. Well worth checking out.

You can download this mod here.

BONUS MOD – Call of Trainwiz – Xbox One

42546-1-1379562389

“People have often asked me “Trainwiz, if you are a wizard, and a train wizard, what train spells do you know?” So, to show those people, I created this mod. It adds a shout that, when used, will create an effect similar to Alduin’s meteor shower spell. Except instead of meteors, they’re trains. It will rain trains. You have read this correctly, and you have been warned. I take no responsibility for any damages sustained while it’s raining [censored] trains.”

Imagine what this mod does from the image and description above. That’s pretty much it. Destructive, confusing, and funny. A great mod to have around.

You can download this mod here.

BONUS MOD 2 – Fluffin’s Followers: Winston the Penguin – Xbox One

winston

“Adds a simple penguin follower, the first ever, to Skyrim.”

Not only an awesome little follower mod, but a bit of a tank as well. Winston boasts 1k hp of health, so he can be handy in a fight.

And that concludes the list. I hope you enjoyed it, and feel free to let us know how you get on with the mods and to suggest some more – either in the comments below, or you can contact us on Twitter @nerdreactor and @raykimaru.

In an interesting turn of events, Tim Miller has joined the Sonic movie project as the Executive Producer.

Miller, who recently left Fox’s Deadpool 2 due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds, is reportedly shooting the live-action/CG-hybrid film at Blur Studio in collaboration with Jeff Fowler. The video-game-inspired movie will be Fowler’s first time at the director’s helm.

“Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts,” Miller said. “The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”

BioWare has released a brief new trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda – urging players to sign up to the “Andromeda Initiative.”

The trailer shows what appears to be the game’s main protagonist(s?) standing on the moon and looking back at the Earth, before a panning shot reveals a very Citadel-looking construct in the background. This seems to be the large vessel seen in other trailers so far.

“Orientation begins November 7” reads the tagline for the Andromeda Initiative, which also just happens to be N7 day – when Mass Effect news typically drops.

According to the official website: “The Andromeda Initiative is currently seeking recruits. Registered recruits will be among the first contacted to receive critical mission information, special training opportunities, and will also be eligible for reward upon program completion. Orientation begins Nov. 7.”

You can catch the trailer yourself below, and let us know what you think. I’ve signed up for the Andromeda Initiative myself and will be reporting soon on what exactly it is.

amaru

We’re finally here—the finale. And it certainly ends with quite a bang. So Rambers, let’s get rambling!

——

It starts with a flashback (?) The Gecko’s scout, waiting to rob a bank before cutting back to present day…

The Gates of Xibalba

Seth finds Freddie and his family, Scott and Kate—the latter is dying from blood loss after Amaru’s resurrection. With Seth’s assurance, Freddie takes his family to the hospital.

Meanwhile, having chained the Xibalban Zolo, Richie remains stuck in a car during daylight. With no choice, Richie makes a run for it, but quickly collapses from the sun. However as Amaru nears the mines, the sun is eclipsed allowing him to reach Amaru right when she opens the Gates to Xibalba. Everyone feels the earth tremble as the gates open.

Richie tries to fight Amaru, but is easily defeated and trapped. Amaru then begins to possess everyone from afar.

Rise of a Queen

The once captured culebras prepare to fight despite Kisa’s urging. Carlos counters—this fight belongs to them too and that these culebras see her as La Diosa—their Goddess, their leader, even if she doesn’t see it herself. He mysteriously disappears as the culebras’ eyes become red, marking Amaru’s possession. They attack Kisa and begin killing each other. It forces Kisa’s hand and she transforms and announces herself as their queen, and they soon regain control of themselves. Amaru discovers she cannot possess Kisa.

Seth and Scott perform a blood transfusion on Kate, saving her. Kate, however, still sees visions of Amaru. Seth instructs Scott to take Kate to safety, however Kate wants to fight after everything Amaru has done. Kisa and the culebras arrive and Kate immediately apologies for killing Manola; Kisa assures her it wasn’t her fault.

Richie is still nowhere to be reached. The team learns that the Gate is the source of Amaru’s power and Kate says that she can stop Amaru by closing the gate. From a remote location, Kisa challenges Amaru to come to her—Amaru agrees while unleashing more of her monsters from Xibalba.

The Battle of Two Queens

Kisa, Seth, Kate, Scott and the culebras ready for battle. In order to get to the Gate, they have to walk through the ghost town. Seth frustrates Kate with his overprotectiveness, but their argument is interrupted as Amaru’s monster’s ambush, and Scott is pulled by one of the monsters through a window. Kate and Seth manage to save the younger Fuller before he’s completely consumed by the Xibalbans.

Kisa finds Carlos, unsure where he aligns. Carlos revealed that he actually failed the Labyrinth in season one and made a “deal with the devil” (Xibalba) and in turn cannot fight as he is a part of them. But he wants them to defeat Amaru to be free. Kisa eventually encounters Amaru and after the latter kills two culebras, the two women fight. Even though it seems like an equal match, Amaru freezes Kisa just as she’s about to transform and stabs Kisa in her wings. However, before she can kill her, Amaru is alarmed when learning Kate is still alive.

The Purge

At the hospital where Freddie and his family are staying, a number of the staff have become possessed initiating a whole slaughter. With the help of Dakota, Freddie guides his family to safety in one of the room. Dakota, however, becomes possessed and Freddie narrowly manages to kick Dakota out.

Carlos appears to Richie, encouraging to escape Amaru’s reigns before he disappears. After escaping the rubble, Sex Machine arrives and they work together to close the gate by trying to translate the symbols on the ground. Before they can figure out the last character, Sex Machine is possessed by Amaru. Zolo arrives to stop him from attacking Richie and helps the latter in translating the final character. Before they can close the gate, a possessed Sex Machine rises and the altercation leads to both Zolo and Richie getting pulled into Xibalba. Once Sex Machine regains controlled, he gets pulled in too.

Richie digs himself into Xibalba. Carlos appears and tells him he’s always had a little bit “Lucifer” in him and that he has the power to help defeat the Xibalban.

The Wicked Witch is Dead

After fighting through Amaru’s monsters, Kate, Scott and Seth arrive at the mine with Amaru following suit. Seth’s continued overprotectiveness and treatment of Kate frustrates her. She tells him the girl she should have been is gone. She confronts his inability to kill her to defeat Amaru before revealing that Amaru is still a part of her and that she is the key to clos the gate. However, Seth refuses to sacrifice Kate. The conversation is interrupted when Amaru captures Scott.

Amaru tells Seth that Richie is in Xibalba before she threatens to kill Scott and demands Kate’s surrender. Kate realizes Amaru can’t kill her because they are connected. Kate threatens to walk through the Gate; Seth threatens to shoot Kate’s knees to stop her from sacrificing herself while Amaru threatens to kill Scott once more. Kate confirms Amaru’s words—she wants to seek redemption in front of those she loves for what she’s done. Seth, finally understanding, gives in to Kate’s request and lets her get pulled into Xibalba. He shoots Scott in the head before Amaru can kill him. As he prepares to be killed, Kisa arrives and stabs Amaru. Scott heals and wakes up.

As Amaru threatens to take them all with her, Richie and Kate return from Xibalba and Kate rips through Amaru’s wounds. The souls Amaru consumed rip their way out of her before the she is pulled into Xibalba. Kate picks up Amaru’s necklace as Kisa comforts her. Throwing the necklace into Xibalba, the gate closes and the group escapes as the mine collapses.

A Fairy Tale Ending

At the hospital, the survivors regain control of themselves. Freddie and his wife make up after surviving all the chaos.

Scott makes an offer to Kate to come with him, however Kate declines due to how much has changed for her. Scott understands and they part on a bittersweet note. The rest of the team encounters Carlos who is now a free man. Carlos ask Seth what’s next for him—Seth says he doesn’t know, but is happy not knowing. Kisa and her new family of culebras decide to part ways, and Carlos, now a new person, says his goodbyes.

Richie and Seth leave together before Seth catches Kate smiling back at him.

The Gecko Brothers (Plus Kate) Are Back

So it turns out the flashback in the beginning of the episode wasn’t a flashback at all, but an epilogue. Post-Amaru, Richie and Seth have return to their old ways and attempt to rob a bank. As Seth and RIchie hold up the bank teller, Kate walks in the center of the Gecko brothers. Now a part of their team and adorned with matching shades, she holds the gun to the teller and tells her to “be cool” before the credits roll.

A new evil?

An officer walks out from the mine where the Gates of Xibalba was and gives Amaru’s necklace to his superior. So it may not be the last we see of Xibalba?

Final Thoughts

First, I have to say while this season has been generally lukewarm, but the last third of the season made a huge comeback and truly felt like what the show was meant to be. Maybe the “monster-of-the-week” format didn’t necessarily work; however it’s apparent the show picked up as it became more serialized again.

Amaru: Amaru had so much potential, however, she was far too two-dimensional as a villain. By the time we had any character development (episode 9), it was too late. Carlos, being so complexed was the character you liked and rooted for his downfall. But by comparison, I didn’t care much about Amaru’s fall. Her death was pretty disgusting and cool-looking at least.

Kisa/Santanico: I suppose there couldn’t be much done for Kisa’s storyline as they were working around Eiza Gonzalez’s film schedule. Despite her story being initiated by one dead girlfriend, it was great to see her and Carlos working together once more and to see her be the leader she has always meant to be. It was just a shame that it only took till the third season finale to see our two main female characters actually interact.

The Fullers and the Geckos: After such a powerful storyline between the Fullers last season, I wish they had a stronger story this season. As much as I love Seth and Kate’s relationship, some of the emotional storylines should have been shared with Scott considering he’s Kate’s brother.

Nonetheless, even if it lacked execution, it was still oddly perfect at the same time. Scott and Kate were always the flipside of the Gecko brothers. Despite their age, they were stronger than them in a sense. “[They] need each other,” as their father once noted. However, their father’s words no longer apply to them now. With how much they both endured, they’re no longer children. By this time, they’ve deal with so much, and now they are fully integrated into the team as equals alongside their older allies.

Like the Gecko’s, the Fullers share a strong love and willingness to make sacrifices for each other. However, they don’t share the Gecko’s codependency—they don’t need to rely on each other and that in itself is a testament to their growing maturity and their journey in becoming adults. Scott’s been on his own for a while after making his own mistakes, which is probably why he understands more than anyone that Kate needs to do the same—at least for now. So while it may lack execution, their parting was befitting of these young characters’ journeys.

Which leads to Seth and Kate—these two have been through Hell together (sometimes a little literally) even if they weren’t together for most of the season. Seth has always placed Kate on a pedestal of goodness. Kate is Seth’s moral compass as DJ Cotrona likes to put; she’s someone to be saved. She’s his redemption. But the problem with that is Seth’s made Kate about him, and Seth eventually learns this it’s not about him. Kate doesn’t need to be saved. Their paths to redemption may be alike and may be intertwined, but Kate’s path is still her own.

All this time, Kate’s agency was taken literally by Amaru and in another sense, by Seth as well. So when Seth lets her go through the Gates of Xibalba—he allows her to make her own decisions. He recognizes her as an adult and this allows her agency to finally return to her own story.

I suppose this season’s happy ending is the sweet award to the tragedy of last season. There’s no culebra underworld, less emotional baggage—it’s normal, at least as normal as it could be. And with Kate now becoming the third piece of the Gecko Brothers’ team, it almost seems like a perfect fit to a puzzle. She’s no longer the little girl, but someone they consider a true partner.

“Be cool,” she says to the bank teller as she stands in the middle as their equal. What a perfect way to end the season, if not the series if this really is the end?

Other Notes:

  • Sex Machine/Professor Tanner got sucked into Xibalba and never came out. Is that the last we’ve seen of him? No offense to Jake Busey, but I hope so. But if that cliffhanger said anything, it may not be.
  • What exactly happened with Kate and Richie inside Xibalba? It really wasn’t clear.
  • If you didn’t notice, the end credit song “Monsters” was sung by the show’s very own Madison Davenport!

As of now, there’s no confirmation for a season four as El Rey has released the cast from their contracts. And word is, they may be interested in making the story as a limited series with the same cast. But nothing’s set in stone about that.

Otherwise, what did you think of the season and the finale, Ramblers? Were you satisfied? Let us know in the comments below.

According to Deadline, From Dusk Till Dawn‘s future remains uncertain as El Rey Network has officially released the From Dusk Till Dawn cast from their contracts. Word is that the option for the actors had expired and there’s been no confirmation thus far on a season four.

The downside is a final decision won’t be announced until early 2017, however there is a silver lining—there may be a new From Dusk Till Dawn series in the form of a limited or mini-series (potentially with the same actors.) But everything is all talk and nothing is set in stone.

Otherwise, be sure to catch the season three finale tonight on El Rey Network 9pm ET/PT!

I think that everyone that I know, who has seen this series, has fallen in love with it. And how can you not? It has everything you love about ’80s Sci-Fi, mixed into a show that masterfully pieces each episode together, on a network that seems to not be capable of doing any wrong. And then there’s the soundtrack. Holy crap, I LOVE the soundtrack to this series! I listen to it constantly throughout the week, as the ethereal sound of synthesizers and swells make for a fast-track trip back in time. Yeah, this series is great. What’s even greater, however, is the news that one key character from last season will return! So we better stock up on Eggo waffles.

Millie Bobby Brown, who has taken the world by storm through her incredible performance in Stranger Things, has just been confirmed to be returning in season two. According to TVLine, a rep from Netflix declined to comment, but their sources state that Eleven will indeed be in the upcoming season. This comes as a ray of hope to many who remember an interview the Duffer brothers had with Entertainment Weekly, in which they called Eleven’s return “up in the air.” If this pans out to be true, there will be a collective sigh of relief from fans around the world who had come to know and love the waffle-munching telekinetic.

What do you think about this news? Are you a fan of the series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Stranger Things season two will debut during the summer next year on Netflix.

salem

This week, Salem will return with its third season and it isn’t messing around. Just when you thought last season was bloody – seeing a child biting the finger raw off a woman, just wait until you see this season. After reviewing five episodes of the season, Salem has raised the bar in terms of  blood, gore, and wicked twists in each episode. Yes, it’s possible.

After last season, with the devil taking over Little John’s (Oliver Bell) body, we see a war brewing between the Devil and the Essex witches. No, the devil doesn’t want to create the world for witches and demons. He wants to rule with them as his slaves. Of course, the witches don’t agree with this and plan to bring the only person who could stop him – his mother, Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery).

But, Mary is dead…. or is she? In a world full of magic and necromancy, nobody is truly dead. Tituba (Ashley Madekwe), who now possesses Petrus’ sight, brings Mary to the witches council to revive her. After Mary awakens, she goes straight to work in attempting to kill the devil but runs into multiple problems – including Sebastian (Joe Doyle) and newcomer the Sentinel (Samuel Roukin), an archangel sent to protect the devil.

As for the others, John Alden (Shane West) must come to terms with the loss of Mary and the takeover of witches. He must figure out a way to save the town of Salem from evil forces. The Indian spirits are out of his system, so he’ll be fighting them as a regular human being, but that does not mean he won’t be fighting the supernatural. This is Salem.

Isaac (Iddo Goldberg) is still trying to get rid of the witches from Knocker’s Alley, especially Mercy (Elise Eberle). It’s great to see Isaac receive more of a story this season because he was the sad, lowly character the last two seasons. The creators promised a stronger role for Isaac and have kept their word that he will be tough, but of course, what can he really do against witches?

Mercy, on the other hand, is doing great. She’s off in her own storyline – away from the devil’s mess. She’s now a mistress of a brothel and has finally found true love. This came to a surprise, seeing that Mercy has always been power hungry and independent. But, throughout the episodes, you begin to empathize with her and actually root for the relationship she’s in. It’s an odd relationship, but after viewing it, it makes sense. It was actually enjoyable watching Eberle and her counterpart interact and the chemistry between them is just simply fun.

As for Cotton (Seth Gabel) and Anne (Tamzin Merchant), it’s hard to describe their relationship. The last place we left them was with Cotton being “George Sibleyed” into submission. Throughout this season, there are just so many twists and turns between the two, it’s hard to keep up. Anne is trying desperately to be the wife that Cotton could be proud of, while Cotton is just struggling to get away. As a fan of #Cottanne, it’s hard to cheer for them because of the situation they both are in. They are both living under the Devil’s thumb and that isn’t healthy for a relationship.

The real winner this season to watch is Oliver Bell. For someone so young and new to the industry, Bell has the ability to transform himself into this evil, wicked monster using just his eyes. He’s incredibly talented and this role has proven how creepy a child could become.

Another fun reason to watch is newcomer Marilyn Manson as barber/diener Thomas Dinley. His intentions are not really known, but you can bet he’s not on the Godly-Holy side. His role isn’t huge, but he lights up the room in each scene because he’s just nonchalantly evil. It’s Marilyn Manson, guys.

This season is getting closer to creating a hell on earth. The first two seasons were prepping for the oncoming storm, but season three is already there. The devil is on earth and he’s doing twisted and horrible things to ensure nothing gets in his way. With the addition of Roukin as the Sentinel, it’s about to get even more gory and messed up and that’s the way we like it.

Salem returns Wednesday, November 2nd on WGN America.

The Powerpuff Girls have been making a comeback with their highly-successful reboot that launched earlier this year. Now Millennials and I Gens will have something in common as we enjoy the revival of the Emmy-nominated animation series.

While attempting to create the perfect little girl, Professor Utonium accidentally spills Chemical X into a mixture of sugar, spice, and everything nice. This concoction gave birth to Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup – to be later known as the Powerpuff Girls. These 3 young sisters exhibit a number of superhuman traits such as flight, super strength and heat vision. With their powers, they protect their town and the Professor from variety of dangerous criminals and super villains, all while dealing with the issues that every young girl faces; going to school, making friends, and losing their first tooth.

We had the exclusive opportunity to talk with Kristen Li, the multi talented voice actress of Bubbles. Kristen gives us insight on what it is like portraying this powerful yet innocent Powerpuff Girl.

Nerd Reactor: Would you mind telling us a little bit about who you are, where you come from, and what you did before voice acting?

Kristen Li: I’m a 14 year old entertainer! I love sports; I do Tae Kwon Do, all kinds of skating, football and pilates! Before voice acting, when I was little, I used to model and that grew into commercials. I also was a competitive ice skater for 12 years! As a competitive skater, I had to practice many hours each day, 7 days a week, either on ice or off ice. When I moved to Los Angeles, I started to do voiceover roles in video games and cartoons.
What made you want to become a voice actor? How did you get started?

When I was little I used to watch the cartoons and I was curious as to how they fit the voices with animation. I researched voices and then voice over artists and their characters. It was fascinating to me. After that, I used to make different sounds pretending to be those characters. I think that’s when I knew I wanted to be a voice actor.

You are voicing Bubbles in the Powerpuff Girls reboot. Can you tell us about your character and how the reboot compares to the original?

The original and the reboot are very similar but we do have adjustments. The reboot has new powers, new villains, etc! The art is little bit different from the original show but Bubbles is still sweet, innocent and loves animals.

Were you a fan of the original show? Did you need to watch it/do research for your role as Bubbles?

Yes, I was definitely a fan! I used to watch the show when I was younger so I already knew it but I still had to do research. I watched clips from the original, just to get the vibe of the show again.

In what ways do you relate to your character?

Bubbles and I are both similar to each other. Bubbles is kind, outgoing and loves to help everyone. She’s the youngest one of the group and I am too! I laugh at silly things, get excited at small things and I ask lots of questions, just like Bubbles!

Who is your favorite villain in the show?

Him has been always been one of my favorites because his character is very unpredictable! Although I do like the humor Mojo Jojo brings to the show as well.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not acting?

I like to hang out with my friends, skate boarding, and just have fun like all the other teens. I like to do anything active because I spend most of my time doing school work.

Is there a place that fans can keep up with you online?

All of my social handles are @JustKristenLi!

titanfall-2-live-action-launch

This Fall season of gaming has not and will not see a shortage in the shooter department. Games like Gears of War 4 and Battlefield 1 have already been met with financial and critical praise and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will no doubt sell despite the internet’s backlash. However, in the midst of all these big franchises, there was a relatively new one that was thrown into the lion pit, and that was Titanfall 2.

Nerd Reactor gave the game a 4.5 out of 5 and rightfully so. With the inclusion of a single-player campaign and expanding on the multiplayer that made the first Titanfall so great, it became one of the must-have shooters of not only this year, but this generation. The aforementioned titles (Gears 4, Battlefield 1) have received great reviews from critics and the public as well (I personally wasn’t a fan of Battlefield 1, but that’s beside the point) but they don’t bring a whole lot of new ideas to the table. Of course, a game does not ALWAYS have to do anything new to be great, but when a game does something new and becomes great because of it, then that is a cause for celebration!

titanfall-2-screenshots-06

What is the “new” that I’m referring to exactly? For one, I’ve always been a stickler for a good single-player campaign as there haven’t been many of them in the past few years. Titanfall 2 has a pretty standard story, but the level design is what makes it truly amazing. The parkour changes the way the player interacts with the environment, and it makes them think harder about where they need to go. It’s kind of like a platformer in a sense. While there is nothing wrong with the traditional linear setup of most shooter campaigns, Titanfall 2 takes it to the next level.

Online multiplayer is the big selling point in the Titanfall franchise. I mean, the first one was multiplayer-only so you would hope it’d be good. The game continues to succeed in that portion in the sequel, with more custom loadouts for each Pilot and Titan along with the smooth controls that are easy to use. Someone asked me if Titanfall 2 would be good for them even if they suck at online shooters. As someone who isn’t the worst but far from the best at other online shooters, I told them yes. There is a small learning curve for new players (which is why I recommend they play the single player first) but you might easily become addicted in no time like I have. Getting a Titan is easy in most game modes, especially Bounty Hunt and Attrition with the AI grunts perfect for target-practice and getting the desired scorestreak to earn your mechanized giant. You’ll feel like a badass once you hop in to the cockpit.

Did I mention that there are no Season Passes and Free DLC?! That is a rarity, especially from a publisher like EA.

titanfall-2-screenshots-09

This isn’t necessarily a review for the game (if you want you can read our official review), but rather a suggestion from gamer to gamer. I can without a doubt say that Titanfall 2 is one of the most fun and innovative games I have played in the past few years, and it’s a damn shame to see that it isn’t performing as well as it should, at least in the UK. GfK Chart-Track has reported that sales of physical copies of the game took the Number 4 spot this week and GameIndustry claimed that the launch sales were “barely a quarter” of the original. You would think a single-player campaign and multi-platform release would’ve helped.

I’m a firm believer in speaking with your wallet. If you want games to stop including something like microtransactions, stop buying those games. If you want to see more games include certain elements, buy games that already include them. Titanfall 2 is one of the games that REEK of pure innovation, and innovation is something that you as a gamer should care about in this industry.

Seriously. Buy Titanfall 2. I can’t recommend it enough.

Fuller House!

As quaint and throwback the first season was, Fuller House knew exactly what its audience was wanting: a revisit of the TV family we all grew up with. Although the first season was a spin-off of the original series, the show drew all of its inspiration from those episodes we all know and love. Call it lightning in a bottle, a one-hit wonder, or even a fluke, but one thing is certain about this show, it definitely knows its market. So it was no surprise to many that the show was picked up for a second season, and fans from all over threw their hands in excitement knowing that they were going to get another 12 episodes of the Tanner family antics. Well, now we know what some of the things we’ll be seeing in the upcoming season, as Netflix has released the official trailer of the second season of Fuller House!

It seems that the show has hit its stride with its first season, prepping viewers for more interesting plot points such as a complicated love triangle, a dad suffering some sort of crisis, and finding attractions in the most oddest of places. Other notable things that fans have to look forward to are first kisses, Christmas photos, and a odd interaction with the hit ’90s boy band, New Kids on the Block. I guess we’ll just have to watch the season when it comes out to see how things will shape up for the Tanners and Gibblers.

The season premiere for season two of Fuller House debuts December 9 on Netflix.

StarTrek.com is saddened to report the passing of Don Marshall, who played Lt. Boma -- the astrophysicist who clashed with his superior officer, Spock -- in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Galileo Seven." The actor also made his mark in several other sci-fi projects; he was a regular on the series Land of the Giants, co-starred with Rosie Grier and Ray Milland in the cult classic film The Thing with Two Heads, and guest starred on The Bionic Woman, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and The Incredible Hulk. According to a statement posted on Facebook by BarBara Luna, Marshall's longtime friend, fellow TOS guest and fellow frequent convention attendee, the actor, who was 80, "passed away at Cedars Sinai Hospital on Sunday evening October 30, 2016 at approximately 8 pm. Don transitioned peacefully; at his bedside were his daughter, son, and twin brother Doug Marshall. A memorial service is to be determined."

Rest in Peace Don Marshall, who played Star Trek's Lt. Boma

StarTrek.com spoke to Marshall back in 2012. During the wide-ranging conversation, Marshall addressed one of the most-impactful aspects of his appearance on TOS, which was that Lt. Boma’s skin color meant nothing in the scheme of the episode.

Rest in Peace Don Marshall, who played Star Trek's Lt. Boma

"That was beautiful. That was Gene Roddenberry, and I’d worked for him once before. I did an episode of The Lieutenant for him," Marshall said, referring to "To Set It Right," a controversial, racially charged hour that also featured Gary Lockwood, Dennis Hopper and, in her television acting debut, Nichelle Nichols as the fiancee of Marshall's character. "That’s the way the guy was. He didn’t see color. He saw situation and he had a vision, more so than most people. You could really see that with Star Trek. People learned from Star Trek. This guy created something special. A lot of people went into engineering because of Star Trek. I’ve been told that by many, many engineers. People became astronauts and went into the space program because of the show. You look back and you think, 'What a visionary Gene was,' or ‘What a beautiful person he was.' I wish everybody was that way, but of course we don’t have that."

Please join StarTrek.com in offering our condolences to Marshall's family, friends, colleagues and fans.

After watching Star Trek Beyond several times in a theater, at the special SDCC IMAX premiere, and here on Blu-ray, I must admit that Star Trek Beyond is a tad bit more entertaining after multiple views (my original review). Even after a few months after its initial release, Beyond still boasts some of the most dynamic shots I’ve ever seen in a sci-fi film. With Justin Lin’s background in vehicular action, it’s not surprising that seemingly every shot is breathtaking to look at. Unfortunately, the exhilarating sequences from Lin’s Fast films were never implemented into Beyond.

Much of the film’s entertainment comes from Star Trek Beyond’s light-heartedness and the fraternal banter between the crew of the Enterprise. If only the climactic scene were as intuitive and entertaining as the dialogue.

Speaking of the Enterprise, the ship’s crew is as fun as ever. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are able to deliver excellent performances to drive home Beyond‘s emotional themes. Karl Urban brings the comic relief for most of the film especially with the back-and-forth banter between Bones and Spock. It’s definitely one of the film’s biggest highlights. As for the rest of the crew, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin all have their standout moments.

Beyond‘s newest additions, Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba are a mixed bag. Boutella is easily the breakout star of the film. She’s able to instantly come in and have impeccable chemistry with the entire crew of the Enterprise. Not only that, but Boutella gives her character a nice blend of charming naivety and toughness. Unfortunately for Idris Elba, his villainous gravitas is highly underused here.

Overall, Star Trek Beyond still is missing that certain something which is preventing the film from making any kind of lasting impact. It’s still funny and entertaining after several viewings, but there’s just no soul to the film.

Video
star_trek_beyond_chris_pine

Star Trek Beyond is presented in a 1080P MPEG-4 AVC encoded video with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The contrast is spot on as the video lacks any flatness whatsoever in the transfer. The black levels are deep but there are several times where certain scenes would lose its shadow detail with the crushed blacks. Very fine noise appears in a couple of shots but it’s never intrusive. The colors are reproduced well even though the source material does feature a dull color palette. There isn’t much noise reduction or edge enhancements either as the film was digitally shot on ARRI ALEXA cameras, so everything is crisp and sharp throughout. Overall, the video transfer is a suitable showcase of Lin’s film.

Audio
star_trek_beyond_zachary_quinto_anton_yelchin

Star Trek Beyond is presented in the Dolby Atmos format, but it is also presented in the core Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Master Audio track. The review will reflect Star Trek Beyond‘s core Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Master Audio track. Star Trek Beyond‘s audio presentation is a bit disappointing. For a film that features a lot of dynamic visuals, the surround sound mix isn’t as dynamic. There will be times where the surround and rear speakers will envelop the soundstage but those are few and far in between. The surrounds are just weak overall. Nevertheless, the dialogue clearly is delivered through the center channel and Michael Giacchino’s lovely score swells up clearly over the front channels. Overall, as dynamic as the film’s visuals are, it’s disappointing to not hear the same dynamism coming through the audio presentation.

Special Features
star_trek_beyond_sofia_boutella_simon_pegg

Star Trek Beyond‘s Blu-ray contains the following special features:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Beyond the Darkness
  • Enterprise Takedown
  • Divided and Conquered
  • A Warped Sense of Revenge
  • Trekking in the Desert
  • Exploring Strange New Worlds
  • New Life, New Civilizations
  • To Live Long and Prosper
  • For Leonard and Anton
  • Gag Reel

With over an hour’s worth of special features, there is a lot to watch and some of it are great content. As far as production featurettes go, there are a lot of those included in this release. “Trekking in the Desert,” “Exploring Strange New Works,” and “New Life, New Civilizations” provide a nice behind-the-scenes look at the production of the film. In addition, there are a lot of “talking head” featurettes with the cast and crew of the film. Not surprisingly, “Beyond the Darkness” is the longest featurette on the Blu-ray and also provides the most in-depth information out of all of them. “To Live Long and Prosper” takes you back down memory lane with this 50th-anniversary special look into the cinematic history of Star Trek. Unfortunately, “For Leonard and Anton” isn’t as special as I originally thought it was going to be. The special feature feels a bit rushed in the way the footage is edited together. As for the gag reel, the reel is as funny as it gets. Karl Urban is the standout here and you’ll find out why when you watch it.

Special Features Review: 3/5 atoms
NR 3 Atoms - C

Overall, Star Trek Beyond is a classy way to celebrate the 50th-anniversary of “Star Trek.” Sadly, the film lacks a heart and soul which prevents this entertaining film from being one of the best Star Trek films ever made. Star Trek Beyond features a fine video presentation but is severely lacking in the audio department. The special features offer interesting looks into the production and but the non-production featurettes are a bit lacking.

Overall Review: 3.5/5 atoms
NR 3_5 Atoms - B-

This Blu-ray was reviewed using a retail/advance copy/unit provided by Paramount Home Entertainment.
