Leslie Mann to star in feature adaptation of Blithe Spirit
According to Deadline, Leslie Mann is set to take on the central role of Elvira (unrelated to the Mistress of the Dark) in the feature film adaptation of the 1941 Noel Coward play Blithe Spirit. The actress joins the previous ensemble of Dan Stevens, Isla Fisher and Judi Dench.

The new film is said to be a re-imagining of Coward’s play about a writer who invites an eccentric mystic into his home in the hopes of curing his writer’s block. However, the mystic complicates matters by contacting the spirit of his first wife.
The play was originally brought to the screen in David Lean’s 1945 adaptation, which was a box office failure upon its initial release but has since been viewed as a classic.

Ed Hall (Downton Abbey) will direct from a script written by Nick Moorcroft, Meg Leonard and Piers Ashworth. While James Spring, Leonard and Moorcroft will produce alongside Hilary Bevan Jones, Peter Snell and Tuni Pinnolis.
Mann currently has Motherless Brooklynn and The Croods 2 on the docket. She was last seen in Robert Zemeckis’ Welcome to Marwen.
