In Avengers: Endgame, there was a scene featuring co-director Joe Russo in a support group with Steve Rogers as the leader. Russo’s character talks about his love life that just so happens to involve another man. This caused quite a stir with some fans since it was the first openly gay character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So does that mean there’s another gay character that we don’t know about? The Russo brothers seem to be hinting at that.
The Russo brothers talked about how the scene was an important one in Avengers: Endgame.
“It was an integral scene to show how the world was reacting to what happened in at the end of Infinity War,” Joe tells EW.
EW’s Ross asked to elaborate whether the character was the first gay character in a Marvel Studios film.
“Yes, openly gay,” Joe highlighted. “There’ve been insinuations about other characters’ sexuality, but this is the first openly gay character.”
“Who else is gay?” Shaw asked.
“Uhhh,” Joe said. “We’re gonna find out!”
“That’s a story for another day,” Anthony said.
Notice how Joe mentioned other characters as in plural? Could that mean there is more than one gay character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Who could it be? There was a fan art featuring Brie Larson as Captain Marvel and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Thompson loved the idea and shared it with Larson.
