We can expect more Mass Effect from BioWare in the future

With the first Mass Effect game, we knew that sequels would come out with Mass Effect 2 and 3. With Mass Effect Andromeda having disappointing sales and critical reception, the future of the franchise was uncertain. Currently, developer BioWare is busy working on Anthem, the 4-player coop sci-fi adventure, but the team isn’t giving up on the Mass Effect franchise.

“We’re definitely not done with Mass Effect,” said Mark Darrah, the executive producer of Anthem. “There’s a lot of stories to be told. We could pull on the threads we put down with Andromeda; we could pull on threads from Mass Effect 3. There’s a lot of interesting space to be explored.”

“In my mind, it’s very much alive,” said Casey Hudson, BioWare general manager and former creative director of the Mass Effect Trilogy. “I’m thinking all the time about things that I think will be great. It’s just a matter of getting back to it as soon as we can.”

BioWare is also working on another Dragon Age game, so it can be a while before we see the next Mass Effect. It still needs to cater to the Anthem online community as well once that hits on February 22, 2019.

There are many who would agree that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is their favorite BioWare game. Lucasfilm and EA are working on other titles with other studios, but what about a future Star Wars game from BioWare? Anthem game director Jon Warner didn’t reveal much, but he expressed interest.

“God, I wish I had something to give there,” Warner said. “I’m a lifelong Star Wars fan; KOTOR is one of my all-time favorite BioWare games. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything new to dish on. You never know. There’s a big pitch process, and Disney wants to take Star Wars in a certain direction. But I’d love to work on another Star Wars game.”
