Anthem live-action short from Neill Blomkamp

Anthem trailer Neill Blomkamp Anthem: Conviction

Neill Blomkamp is known for directing sci-fi films like District 9, Chappie and Elysium. He’s also no stranger to sci-fi in video games since he’s done the live-action short called “Halo: Landfall”. Well, he’s at it again with another video short with Anthem: Conviction, a live-action trailer to help promote BioWare’s Anthem.

Neill Blomkamp, Oats Studios and BioWare teamed up to give viewers a cinematic, live-action trailer in the world of Anthem. The story is set decades before the actual game’s events, but it’s definitely a tease since Anthem: Conviction features footage jumping all over the place to mimic a trailer. It’s too bad too since this is simply to promote the game. However, that all might change if there’s enough support for it.

I have to admit, Anthem: Conviction actually has me more excited about the world of Anthem than when I played the game’s beta. Then again, that’s not saying much since the beta didn’t do a good job of hooking me into the story, with story missions feeling very empty.

The online third-person action RPG is developed by BioWare and published by EA. The game is being compared to Bungie’s Destiny, and instead of the NPCs calling you Guardian, you are the Freelancer, an explorer who has left their civilization. You play with up to three other players, and each one gets their own exosuit called the Javelin. The Javelin is like your very own Iron Man suit, and you’ll be able to fly, but you can only do it for a limited time. BioWare can’t have you flying all over the place and try to break the invisible walls in the sky.

As for Neill Blomkamp’s next project, he is the director of the upcoming RoboCop sequel, RoboCop Returns.

“If I can be honest to what Paul Verhoeven did and almost try to emulate that in a way, then I feel like it does have value and we’re not doing it for the sake of just doing it, but there’s something in there that may have value for the audience,” he tells Entertainment Weekly.

Anthem is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 22, 2019.
