IFC Films acquires rights to Jamie Bell drama film Donnybrook
Following the film’s world premiere at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival, Variety reports that IFC Films has officially acquired North American theatrical distribution rights for the drama film Donnybrook which stars Jamie Bell (Fantastic Four, Jumper). IFC Films won bidding against five companies who were interested in obtaining the project.

Donnybrook is based on Frank Bill’s novel of the same which follows the story of a former Marine trying to survive with economic hardships. He enters a bare-knuckle fighting contest where the winner walks away with $100,000. The cast also includes Frank Grillo, Margaret Qualley and James Badge Dale.
Tim Sutton (Dark Knight) is the film’s director with David Lancaster and Stephanie Wilcox at Rumble Films serving as the producers. Joel Thibout, David Atlan-Jackson, Jean-Baptiste Babin, Andrew Schwartzberg and Jon Shiffman are executive producing.
“It is both an honor and a thrill to partner with IFC Films, a distributor with intelligence, integrity and the respect of so many filmmakers I admire,” Sutton said in a statement. “They’ve released some of my favorite films and I couldn’t be more proud to have ‘Donnybrook’ in their hands.”

Bell is best known for his film debut role in Billy Elliot as the titular character that earned him a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He will next be seen as Bernie Taupin in the biographical musical film Rocketman which is based on the life of music legend Elton John. Rocketman is currently in production and will be release next year on May 31.
Donnybrook is slated to hit the theaters in 2019.
