Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon to star in ‘The Spy Who Dumped Me’

Female-driven action and comedy films are becoming more and more popular. And it’s the perfect time for the release of The Spy Who Dumped Me, a new action-comedy film from Lionsgate. It follows on the heels of similar films like The Heat and the rebooted Ghostbusters.

The film that sounds like a recipe for a smash hit includes two fan-favorite actresses. SNL cast member Kate McKinnon, who also starred in the aforementioned Ghostbusters, will star in the film alongside Mila Kunis (Family Guy, Black Swan). Together, they’ll play friends Audrey and Morgan.

According to the film’s synopsis, the pair’s “lives are shifted when Audrey’s unassuming ex-boyfriend shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Surprising even themselves, the duo jump into action when two men are shot dead on their floor, grabbing a top-secret thumb drive and taking off on an undercover mission to save the world.” Like a James Bond film, it’s also being described as a ‘high-octane, continent-hoppy spy caper’.

James Bond Influence

Obviously, the film also gets its title from the Jame Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me. It’s the tenth film in the 007 franchise, starring Roger Moore as the suave MI6 agent. The title of that film, in turn, comes from the Ian Fleming novel of the same name.

The Spy Who Dumped Me will be directed by Susanna Fogel (Life Partners, Chasing Life). It’ll be produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. The film is scheduled for a release on July 6, 2018. Nevertheless, that date doesn’t really work in the movie’s favor. As it’ll be going up against Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and the fourth installment in The Purge franchise. However, considering the premise of the film and the popularity of its stars, the movie should do just fine at the box office.
