With over 200 movies in all manner of genres, from straight horror to exploitation to action to pornography and often hybrids of all of them in on film, there was truly no other filmmaker in history as prolific and passionate as Jess Franco was. He shot to live. He lived to shoot. And he he had so many periods in his life, depending on when and where he was working and what the producer he was working for wanted.
In the case of his time with Swiss producer Erwin C. Dietrich, throughout the mid to late 1970s, Franco made some of the most extreme and controversial pictures of his career; sexually charged, often full-on pornographic horror movies that came armed with enough budget to give to give their ample sadism a lush feel, amid their buckets of sleaze and sadism.
Full Moon has been releasing restored and uncut versions of these magnificent Dietrich/Franco collaborations for their ongoing Jess Franco DVD collection, remastered prints licensed from Dietrich’s own negatives.
