On January 12th (13th in Japan), Nintendo will hold a special presentation which will reveal more information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s next console made its first public appearance last night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé surprised Fallon by letting him be one of the first people to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild live on television.
The Nintendo Switch is a huge change for Nintendo as it will use Nvidia Tegra X1 mobile technology to power its system, and according to Eurogamer, the Switch will also include Virtual Console support for the Nintendo GameCube. That’s pretty big news, especially if you don’t have a GameCube or Wii system and feel like playing various games from the system. Three games so far have been revealed: Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Thanks to the power of the Tegra X1, Gamecube games can run just as well on the Switch as it did on the original Gamecube. That’s great news and makes plenty of sense for Nintendo.
Having the option of being able to play NES, SNES, Gameboy Advance and Gamecube games after taking a break from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or any Switch game is always welcome. It gives more people access to buy these games which can go for a pretty penny on eBay. Super Smash Bros. Melee is a title that is still popular, especially in the tournament scene, and gives people more access to play it anywhere for a fraction of the price.
Eurogamer also mentions that Nintendo may be looking into the GameCube controller adapter peripheral released for the Nintendo Wii U, which can only be used with Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Wii U.
