While Hideo Kojima is no longer part of Konami, it’s no surprise that Konami is still looking to keep pumping out games based on its popular Metal Gear franchise… because money. At Gamescom 2016, Konami did just that by introducing Metal Gear Survive.
It’s honestly not something anyone could have expected this quickly. Rather than the tactical espionage single-player campaign we’ve come to enjoy, it becomes a four player co-op survival game set after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. You play as the surviving members of Militaires Sans Frontières, and they somehow get teleported into an alternate universe where they must survive and fight a mysterious biological threat.
Metal Gear Survive will use the FOX Engine, the same engine that powered both Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain which of course was developed by Kojima Productions after the completion of Metal Gear Solid V.
“Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience,” said Konami European president, Tomotada Tashiro in a press release. I don’t know about you but I just keep thinking Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps.
Metal Gear Survive will be released in 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
