Deadpool writers confirm Zombieland 2 and discuss Bill Murray

zombieland

Seemingly, there’s no stopping the horde of zombies in film and television. The Walking Dead is still going strong on AMC and even spawned a spin-off show in Fear the Walking Dead. Now Zombieland is following suit to become the next zombie franchise. Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese confirmed that they’re working on Zombieland 2 while appearing on AMC’s Geeking Out with Kevin Smith and Greg Grunberg.

“That is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now,” said Wernick and Reese. “We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.”

The writers also discussed the famous Bill Murray scene and how it was originally written for Patrick Swayze before he got sick. They even offered the part to several other actors including Sylvester Stallone, Kevin Bacon, Mark Hamill, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, who all passed on the role. It was Woody Harrelson who suggested either Murray or Dustin Hoffman. However, Hoffman was unavailable and Murray took the role, although only after a  few changes were made to the script to expand his role.

Of course, Murray was great in the film, but it would have been fascinating to see some of those other actors in similar roles. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get to see some of them in the sequel.
