Kinberg & Weil’s Invasion builds cast as production resumes
After initially announcing the acquisition of the series in early 2019, Apple TV+’s Invasion from Simon Kinberg (Dark Phoenix) and David Weil (Hunters) has begun to build its cast with Sam Neill (Jurassic World: Dominion), Shamier Anderson (Bruised), Golshifteh Farahani (Extraction) and more, according to Deadline.

The series, written and executive produced by Kinberg and Weil, is set across multiple continents as an alien invasion occurs and will explore the event from multiple perspectives around the world. The project is being described as one of the streaming platform’s most ambitious as it plans to film in four locations on four continents, including New York, the U.K.’s Manchester, Morocco and Japan and some footage had been shot in New York and Morocco before being shut down in mid-March amidst the global pandemic.
Neill is set to lead the series as Sheriff John Bell Tyson, a weathered rural lawman on the verge of retirement, with Anderson set to play Trevante Ward, a solider stationed in Afghanistan and Farahani as Aneesha Malik, a first-generation Syrian immigrant, wife and mother living in Long Island. In addition to the trio, Firas Nassar (Fauda) is set to play Ahmed Malik, Aneesha’s husband and a successful businessman, and Shioli Kustuna (Deadpool 2) as Mitsuki, an intelligent member of Japan’s JASA mission control.

Alongside Kinberg and Weil, the series is being executive produced by Audrey Chon, Amy Kaufman, Elisa Ellis for Platform One and Jakob Verbruggen, who is also serving as director for the project. Invasion is one of the first U.S. series to resume production with COVID-19 safety protocols and and the second at Apple after For All Mankind resumed filming on its second season on the Sony lot earlier this month.
