Domhnall Gleeson & Merritt Wever-led series Run cancelled at HBO

HBO has officially decided not to give Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Vicky Jones’ rom-com thriller series Run a second season renewal. This cancellation comes after over a month since the Domhnall Gleeson and Merritt Wever-led series had concluded its seven-episode season last May.

“After exploring potential ways of continuing Ruby and Billy’s journey, together with showrunner Vicky Jones, we have come to the decision that we will not be moving forward with a second season of Run,”  HBO said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Run is a romantic-comedic-thriller series that follows the story of Ruby, a woman living a humdrum existence, who one day gets a text inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact promising true love and self-reinvention by stepping out of her life to take a journey with her oldest flame Billy Johnson. A successful life guru who is born from a wealthy Irish family, Billy has the gift of the gab, deftly combining a boatload of charisma with a boundless need for approval.

The series starred Domhnall Gleeson (About Time) as Billy and Emmy Award-winning actress Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie, Godless) as Ruby Dixie along with Golden Globe and Emmy winning-actress Waller-Bridge in a recurring role as Flick.

Vicky Jones has created and written the project and will also executive produce alongside Waller-Bridge through their DryWrite banner. The series was produced by Entertainment One with Emily Leo of Wigwam Films serving as an executive producer.

Waller-Bridge is best known for her critically-acclaimed comedy series Fleabag which stars Waller-Bridge, Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Hugh Skinner, and Sian Clifford. It’s second season won 3 Emmys and 2 Golden Globe awards including Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Waller-Bridge’s amazing performance as the titular character.
