Space Force Season 1 Episode 3 and Episode 4 Recap

In the previous episodes of Netflix’s Space Force, Gen. Naird oversaw the launch of Epsilon 6, which the Chinese sabotaged. In Space Force Season 1 Episode 3, Naird and Dr. Mallory testified in front of Congress regarding Space Force’s budget, and in Space Force Season 1 Episode 4, Naird volunteered for the Lunar Habitat experiment.

Mouse Appropriations

Dr. Mallory discovered that the budget for his rat blood pressure tests was cut from the Space Force budget. He, Gen. Naird, and Scarapiducci left for Washington, D.C. to testify at a congressional hearing. While there, Naird met with the heads of the other branches of the military. Angry about losing Space Force to Naird, Gen. Grabaston told him that the Air Force would reabsorb Space Force by the end of the hearing.

During the hearing, Naird asked for a 150% increase of the budget. Rep. Pitosi grilled him on Space Force’s lack of transparency, before yielding to Rep. Ysidro-Campos. She grilled Naird about sending a fresh orange to space for $10,000. He gave a speech about how the astronauts needed reminders of home. This drove Dr. Mallory to give a satisfactory answer about the benefits of Space Force to average Americans. In turn, Naird advocated for Mallory’s experiments.

Lunar Habitat Experiment

Space Force Season 1 Episode 3 and Episode 4 Recap

The Lunar Habitat experiment to prove that humans could live on the moon for extended periods of time was a week from concluding after two years. Three spacemen and a civilian sculptor lived as though they were on the moon, but one of the spacemen went mad. Naird volunteered to take his place, despite Dr. Mallory’s protests.

In the Lunar Habitat, the subjects grew potatoes, and the sculptor made phalluses out of sand. Naird was having troubling dreams at night. He decided to go on a run in his spacesuit and collapsed from the heat. Naird talked with the other subjects about the stresses of his job and family life. On his final night, he had restful sleep. However, no one was there to greet him when he came back to Space Force headquarters.

Erin was suspended from school and hoped to go D.C. too. However, Naird assigned Capt. Ali to watch her. She punished two young spacemen at the gym for being rude to Erin and took her to get acai bowls. Ali suggested that Erin get a job as a soft serve slinger. Though it seemed like Erin was making a friend in Capt. Ali, she still struggled. She tried to throw a party while Naird was in the Lunar Habitat, but no one showed up. Naird still came home to a mess, including one that Erin refused to clean up before he had left. However, Erin apologized.
