The two shows renewals leave only the rookie crime thriller Prodigal Son and multicam sitcom Outmatched on the bubble, with the latter not expected to earn a renewal though the former’s future is dependent upon star Michael Sheen’s schedule, as it was a strong performer in the ratings.

The Resident and Last Man Standing are such important parts of Fox, and we’re so pleased they will be returning next season,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in a statement. “We want to thank all of the writers, actors, directors, producers and talented crews for both of these shows, and, of course, our friends and producing partners at 20th Century Fox Television.

Last Man Standing, created by Jack Burditt, is produced by 20th Century Fox Television, and also stars Nancy Travis, Jonathan Adams, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders and Jordan Masterson. The show averaged 8.3 million viewers in Live + 7 ratings for the 2016-2017 season on ABC. It was the network’s second most-watched comedy, after Modern Family. Among the key Adults 18-49 demographic, the series averaged a 1.7/7. The series ranked as the No. 1 new program across all syndication when it debuted off-net during the 2016-2017 season.
