Anthony Daniels Recalls His Audition for C-3PO for Star Wars Day

The big Star Wars Day extravaganza is finally here. Today, all is about the stories that took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. One of the first Star Wars-related content came from actor Anthony Daniels, who took to Instagram to read an extract from his book, I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story. The British actor — who is the only actor to have starred in every Star Wars movie — recalled his first meeting with the man himself, George Lucas, on November 14, 1975, confessing that he wasn’t a fan of the sci-fi genre at the time.

“I obeyed my agent and walked through the traffic to 20th Century Fox House in Soho Square,” Daniels read. “Here I was, pushing open the front door with the famous Fox logo above me, as I entered the marbled interior. […] There was George. Jeans. Plaid shirt. Diminutive. Shy. Polite. Exhausted. He was seeing hundreds of actors. We sat down. There was a pause. ‘So. You’re an actor?’ ‘Err, yes.'”

After exchanging a few words, Lucas showed Daniels one of the C-3PO concept arts by Ralph McQuarrie. It was love at first sight.

“My world stopped,” Daniels added. “My diffidence fell away. I was entranced. Captured. Bonded. Ralph McQuarrie had created an evocative image that touched my soul. Standing on a sandy terrain, against a rocky landscape, with distant planets filling the sky, 3PO gazed out forlornly. Our eyes met and he seemed yearning to walk out of the frame into my world.”

Expect more of these contents to come your way today. A virtual convention promoted by Star Wars Celebration is kicking off on in these hours. Plus, Disney+ announced that the whole Skywalker Saga is going to be available on its streaming catalog starting today. Besides that, Disney+ is releasing a brand new documentary series called Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. And lastly, Star Wars: The Clone Wars will wrap things up after seven seasons on Star Wars Day too.
