First Dune photo features Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides!
Vanity Fair has debuted new set images from Warner Bros. and director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming remake of Dune, including Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho. They have also revealed new details about the sci-fi blockbuster. Check out the photos in the link below!
“It was really surreal,” says star Timothée Chalamet. “There are these Goliath landscapes, which you may imagine existing on planets in our universe, but not on Earth.”
Filmmaker Villeneuve apparently refused to make Dune unless Warners committed to splitting the story into two films, similar to their approach to Stephen King’s IT.
“I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie,” says Villeneuve. “The world is too complex. It’s a world that takes its power in details… It’s a book that tackles politics, religion, ecology, spirituality—and with a lot of characters. I think that’s why it’s so difficult. Honestly, it’s by far the most difficult thing I’ve done in my life.”
There’s so much else to say, so much else to show.

The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) and Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in leading roles. The film will also feature Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home) Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men), Stellan Skarsgard (Thor: The Dark World), Charlotte Rampling (The Night Porter) and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame).
Villeneuve is best known for directing Blade Runner 2049 as well as Sicario. Though Dune will likely resemble the former film more than the latter, both display the sort of experience directing arid, desolate locales that a fan would want in their Dune director, considering a sizable chunk of the story takes place on a desert planet.

Dune is currently set to be released in theaters on December 18, 2020.
