Westworld Season 3 Episode 1 Recap
After nearly two years, HBO’s Westworld is back for its third season. At the end of the previous season, Dolores made it out of Westworld with five pearls, while Delos recovered the bodies of some important hosts. In Westworld Season 3 Episode 1, Dolores learned about Incite’s data collection and crossed paths with Caleb Nichols.
Freedom
In China, a major investor in Delos, Gerald, monitored the stock’s performance following the deaths at Westworld. He wanted to sell his stake, but he was prohibited. That night, Dolores arrived at his home and took over the AI system running the house. She forced Gerald to confront how he beat his first wife and caused her death. When Gerald had been at the park, he had raped Dolores, and she remembered. Dolores had already stolen all his money, so she forced him to turnover confidential documents from Incite, a tech company he used to work for before he retired young. After leaving him alive, he tried to attack her and died after his head as he fell into the swimming pool.
Rehoboam
Through maintaining a relationship with Liam, Dolores learned about Rehoboam, Incite’s all-powerful and predictive AI. However, Dolores realized that though Liam was the son of one of the creators, he was figurehead. He only had access to the outer layer of information; Liam didn’t know how it worked. It under the control of a mysterious person.
Though Martin Connells had realized Dolores wasn’t who she said she was, he didn’t know that she wasn’t human. After trying to stop her breathing, a car came with a host that looked like him. Then, Dolores killed all of Connells’ guards, and the host resembling Connells killed him.
Caleb Nichols
Caleb Nichols was a construction worker and a veteran. He was undergoing therapy where an AI that sounded like his friend, Francis, called him to talk about what’s been going on with him. However, the real Francis was dead.
To help pay for his mother’s medical care, Caleb used an app called Rico to pick up criminal jobs. He never took “personals”, like kidnapping or murder. Caleb arrived at a job as Connells brought Dolores in. He left and discontinued his therapy with Francis after an application for a better job was rejected. After she had gotten rid of Connells, Caleb came across her, wounded, in a tunnel. She collapsed in his arms.
Hosts in the World
Bernard, now a fugitive and blamed for the uprising at Westworld, was hiding out by working at an industrial meat farm. When his coworkers discovered who he was and tried to collect the reward for him, he beat them up and left to head to Westworld.
Though we do not know which host resided in her, Charlotte Hale still interim CEO of Delos. Though the owners of the corporation wanted to shut down operations, she insisted they stay open and minimized the tragedy.
In the after credits scene, Maeve found herself awake in a Nazi-themed park.
