Locke & Key Season 1 Episode 5 and Episode 6 Recap

In the previous episodes of Netflix’s Locke & Key, Bode discovered that the woman from the well needed him to willingly give her the keys, and Kinsey removed her fear from her mind. In Locke & Key Season 1 Episode 5, Kinsey’s key-use went too far, and in Locke & Key Season 1 Episode 6, Nina confronted Ellie.

Music Box Key

The keys now whispered to Kinsey and Tyler as well as Bode. They found another key, this time in the piano, that opened a music box. The music compelled listeners to obey commands that the person who used the key supplied. With the addition of another key, Tyler decided that they should split the keys up and always have them. With the Music Box Key in her possession, Kinsey brought the music box to school.

Eden was particularly nasty to Scot during school. Kinsey used the Music Box Key to force Eden to embarrass herself at lunch. Scot thought she went too far, but Gabe, who discovered what they were doing, encouraged her.

Gabe also backed Kinsey about taking the Savinis to film in the sea caves. Drawn inside the caves, she broke away from them and found a locked, keyhole-shaped door. However, the tide started coming in. While they were able to swim out of the caves, they had to leave Scot’s film equipment behind.

Duncan’s Memories

Locke & Key Season 1 Episode 5 and Episode 6 Recap

Tyler saw a video of what had happened with Eden and got into an argument with Kinsey. However, they heard another key coming from outside. They found the Flower Key in the graveyard. Kinsey used it in a tree, and jars of memories rose from the ground. Tyler and Kinsey realized they were Duncan’s memories from when he was a kid. He’d known about and used the keys with Rendell. The memories also included glimpses of the tragedy. Tyler and Kinsey saw Rendell attacking and possibly murdering one of his friends.

Kinsey brought the jars back. She showed one to Duncan, who doubled over in pain. However, afterwards, he acted as if he hadn’t seen anything. Duncan developed an incapacitating migraine.

Scars of the Past

Locke & Key Season 1 Episode 5 and Episode 6 Recap

Nina came home and heard someone in the house. It turned out to be Ellie, who claimed she’d been looking for one of Rufus’s action figures. Nina noticed a scar on Ellie’s collarbone and remembered that Rendell had the same one in the same place. Ellie’s explanation didn’t make sense in the context of Rendell having it too. She went to Joe about it since he had known them both when they were teenagers. Though Joe didn’t have much information, he later called Nina, asking her to come over since he had something to show her. When Nina arrived, she found Joe dead with a plastic bag tied around his head. Nina called the police and heard someone in the house afterwards. We saw that Ellie had been there.

At the funeral, Nina confronted Ellie about being there. She denied it. Nina pressed her about the scar. Ellie admitted that she, Rendell, and their surviving friends had given each other the scars with a hot poker to remind themselves of their friends who died.

Something’s Coming

After Joe’s death, Tyler bailed on the 5K that Joe had asked him to help with. It was important to Jackie, so she was upset to find him at a party. Tyler got drunk and started talking with a woman, who he didn’t realize was the Echo from the well. She had warned Bode that something was coming.

Sam Lesser, armed with the Lighter Key, broke out of prison and burned it down. As Duncan drove off the Keyhouse grounds, Sam went through the open gate.
