This Is Us Season 4 Episode 12 Recap
In the previous episode of NBC’s This Is Us, Randall’s spiraling after the break-in led to him calling Kevin. In This Is Us Season 4 Episode 12, Kevin attended the funeral for Sophie’s mother, Claire.
House Blend
While Kevin was talking to M. Night Shyamalan, a production assistant brought Kevin his phone, since Sophie had called him multiple times. Her mother, Claire, had died from multiple sclerosis. Kevin went back to Pittsburgh to attend the funeral. Sophie gave a eulogy where she talked about their complicated relationship. She had been in her mother’s favorite coffee shop in Brooklyn when she learned of her death. While she was speaking, Kevin gave her a reassuring look. After the funeral, Kevin saw Sophie with her fiancé, Grant.
Kevin went to Claire’s house during the reception and brought donuts from a place that Sophie liked. He called her, and Sophie left the reception with him. Kevin brought her to the site in the woods where they had hung out the night Jack died. That night, they had ditched the party to go to see Good Will Hunting. Unfortunately, the theater experience technical difficulties near the end. They never saw the ending of the movie and would play a game where they thought up possible endings for the movie. In the present, in Kevin’s car, he and Sophie finished the movie.
When he dropped Sophie off, she came back with a headshot of Kevin’s that Claire had kept. He went to her grave to bring her fresca and prosecco. When Kevin arrived back in Los Angeles, he went to Kate’s house to see Jack. Madison was there to walk Angus. She had just gotten dumped. When Randall had called Kevin, he had slept with Madison. Kevin talked to Kate, whose marriage was imploding. They all agreed to go to the family’s cabin.
Emerald Ring
In the 90s, Kevin and Sophie arrived from New York a day early for Rebecca’s birthday. Kevin had a role on Days of Our Lives, but since they cut out his line, Rebecca didn’t know he was still in the episode and hadn’t watched it. She had to get to work, so Sophie and Kevin went to Claire’s house. She had seen Kevin and praised his performance. Claire surprised Sophie with a trip to see the Aurora Borealis, but Sophie was angry. They had saved the money for repairs on the house.
While alone with Claire, Kevin asked her for her mother’s ring to give to Sophie since he couldn’t give her the wedding of her dreams. The ring had a rich history that Claire felt that Kevin had to earn it. When Kevin got back to the house, Rebecca had canceled her birthday dinner. Something was wrong with Kate.
The Sheep
Three-year-old Kevin couldn’t sleep. He missed the sheep mobile from his crib. Jack couldn’t find it, so he woke Rebecca up to ask where it was. Unfortunately, it had gone to Goodwill. Jack brought him back to bed, assuring him that he would find something new to love, like a tiger stuffed animal.
