According to Deadline, Quibi is in the process of developing a new spinoff series of the recently released sci-fi thriller film Code 8, with co-stars and cousins Robbie Amell and Arrow star Stephen Amell attached to reprise their roles from the film as Conner and Garrett, respectively. A sequel to the 2016 short film of the same name, the film is directed by Jeff Chan and it had its theatrical release in Canada last month.

The Code 8 film follows a young man with special powers struggling to find work as a day laborer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer and the autonomous robots backing him up. Code 8 takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being wealthy superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized.

The spinoff series will be set years after the events of the movie’s ending which will continue to follow Robbie Amell’s Conner, who is now an ex-convict, and Stephen Amell’s telekinetic drug dealing character Garrett.

Code 8 series will be directed by the film’s director Jeff Chan from a script written by the film’s writer Chris Paré. It will be produced by the Amell duo, Chan and Pare along with Colony Pictures and XYZ Films, who has the global rights for the movie.
