Netflix’s Clickbait casts Zoe Kazan, Betty Gabriel & Adrian Grenier

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Netflix’s upcoming social media thriller Clickbait has begun building its cast with the additions of Zoe Kazan (Wildlife), Betty Gabriel (Get Out), Adrian Grenier (Entourage) and Phoenix Raei.

The series, created by Tony Ayres (The Slap) and Christian White, will explore how people’s most dangerous and uncontrolled impulses are fueled in the age of social media and reveals the ever-widening fractures between virtual and real-life personas.

Kazan has signed on to star as Pia Brewer, a young woman from Oakland, California who’s desperate to find her missing brother in a case that becomes a media sensation while Gabriel is attached to join as Sophie Brewer, who is struggling to keep ehr family together in the midst of the biggest story in the nation. Grenier will star as Nick Brewer, whose seemingly perfect life of having a loving wife and two sons is derailed as he is swept up in the case. Raei will play Oakland Detective Roshir Amin, who is investigating the case.

The series is being produced by NBCUniversal International Studios, Tony Ayres Productions and Heyday Television, and is the first Netflix original to be produced in the Australian state of Victoria, with form both the the state and federal governments helping to fund the series.

Ayres is set to serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Heyday’s David Heyman (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Tom Winchester. Brad Anderson (The Sinner) has signed on as the lead director for the eight-part series with Emma Freeman also signing on to helm episodes.

Clickbait comes form NBCUniversal International Studios, Tony Ayres Productions and Heyday Television. It is the first Netflix original to be produced in the Australian state of Victoria, with funding from both the state and federal governments there.
