The film’s spec script is written by up and coming writer Melanie Toast. It will be produced by Farah Films’ Dan Farah, Vertigo’s Roy Lee, and Cinestate’s Dallas Sonnier.  The studio is planning to start the production on Shut In in the first quarter of 2020.

Bateman has recently won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in Drama Series for his critically acclaimed Netflix drama series Ozark. This marks the third time Bateman will be taking charge behind the camera since directing his first two features with 2013’s black comedy Bad Words and 2015’s The Family, which he both also starred in. Shut In will be the first time Bateman won’t star in a film that he was also directing.
